Lisandro Martinez says Ten Hag has convinced him of ‘perfect’ Man Utd prediction – ‘I firmly believe’

Lisandro Martinez admits that Erik ten Hag has convinced him that Manchester United are the “perfect” club for both personal and team success.

United have officially confirmed the arrival of the Ajax defender on a five-year contract. The deal is worth a potential £57million, after the Red Devils’ earlier agreement with the Eredivisie club.

The 24-year-old can play at the heart of defence as a centre-back. He can also slot in at left-back and as a defensive midfielder.

His versatility and connection with former Ajax boss Ten Hag are big reasons why Man Utd and Martinez struck an agreement.

And now that the Argentina international has sealed his transfer, he wants to take his career to the next level.

“It’s an honour to join this great football club,” Martinez told his new club’s official website. “I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment and, now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career and that’s what I want to continue at Manchester United.

“There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that, under this manager and coaches, and together with my new team-mates, we can do it.”

Martinez thanked Ajax for his “unbelievable” journey. Although, he added that he has now joined the “perfect” club to thrive in a new challenge.

Lisandro Martinez hailed by Man Utd

United football director John Murtough, meanwhile, claimed the “outstanding” Martinez will add “quality and experience”.

“We are delighted that he has chosen to join Manchester United and we are looking forward to seeing him develop further and help the team achieve the success we are aiming for,” Murtough said.

Martinez played 118 times for Ajax, chipping in with six goals and six assists.

His new Man Utd contract also features an option to extend by a year until 2028. He has seven Argentina caps ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

New boy looking to impress

Martinez’s first job will be to impress his team-mates and manager, although he already has a strong bond with Ten Hag.

And that will no doubt help him settle in and try to get game time in his debut season for United.

Lisandro Martinez is a top signing for Man United

Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is closing in on a move to Manchester United.

He will battle the likes of Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane for game time. Martinez could also feature in either full-back position and in defensive midfield given his versatility.

He is therefore a strong signing on multiple fronts and another aim of his will be getting into top form ahead of the World Cup.
