Lisandro Martinez transfer news: Three minor obstacles left as Man Utd agree deal for Ajax star

Manchester United have announced a transfer agreement with Ajax which will see Lisandro Martinez move to Old Trafford, subject to three small hurdles.
The Red Devils have been battling Arsenal for Martinez’s signature in recent weeks. They took pole position earlier this week after holding a meeting with Ajax officials.
Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with Martinez and it seems the coach’s influence has been vital to Manchester United holding Arsenal off.
United have now released a statement confirming the central defender will join this summer, with three minor obstacles left to overcome.
It reads: ‘Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Argentine international defender Lisandro Martinez, subject to medical, to player terms being finalised, and to UK visa requirements.’
Personal terms shouldn’t be an issue as The Athletic claim there is already an agreement between United and Martinez on this.
The other hurdles, a medical and visa, are unlikely to be a problem for the transfer, which means United fans can start to get excited about their latest arrival.
Martinez is set to become United’s third signing of the summer transfer window. He follows Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia and former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen to Manchester.
Lisandro Martinez cost revealed
BBC Sport provide some insight on Martinez’s move. It will reportedly cost United an initial £49million. This could rise to £57m with add-ons.
The Argentina international is likely to pen a five-year contract with the Red Devils. These terms will include the option of another year, too.
Martinez ticks multiple boxes for the club. First of all, Ten Hag trusts him and knows how to get the best out of him.
Martinez can also play in several positions. He usually operates at centre-half but can also play as a left-back or defensive midfielder if necessary.

Lisandro Martinez is a top signing for Man United
Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is closing in on a move to Manchester United.
This means the 24-year-old will mainly rival Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane for a starting spot. But other players, such as Luke Shaw, will have to up their games too amid Martinez’s arrival.
The seven-cap international has won several trophies while at Ajax and United chiefs will be hoping he can replicate this during his time in England.
Martinez could appear in a United shirt for the first time on Tuesday. They play Crystal Palace in a pre-season friendly. Perhaps a more likely pre-season debut for Martinez will be in the following match against Aston Villa. That takes place on Saturday July 23.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has been speaking about potential moves for Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo.
