Man Utd, Liverpool learn transfer fate as £29m Ajax starlet decides next club

Ryan Gravenberch of Ajax

Manchester United and Liverpool have discovered if they will be able to sign Ryan Gravenberch after the Ajax man reportedly made a decision on his next club.

Gravenberch is integral to the Amsterdam outfit, despite being just 19 years old. He has made 37 appearances so far this season, registering two goals and six assists.

The central midfielder has missed just one Eredivisie match in 2021-22 and that was down to coronavirus. However, Ajax may have to start preparing for life without him.

Gravenberch’s contract expires in June 2023 and he has no intention of renewing. Due to this, Ajax will have to sell in the summer transfer window to get a premium fee.

United are big admirers of the playmaker, who has previously drawn comparisons with a young Paul Pogba.

Liverpool are also in the mix as they look to revamp Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. Gravenberch initially became a target when Gini Wijnaldum left for Paris Saint-Germain, but the Reds did not act then.

However, the two Premier League sides look set for disappointment. According to CaughtOffside, who cite reports in Spain, Gravenberch has chosen to join Bayern instead.

Ryan Gravenberch set for Bundesliga switch

He sees the German titans as the best club to further his development and emerge into a world-class player. The Netherlands international has told agent Mino Raiola to secure a move to the Allianz Arena.

CaughtOffside claim Bayern will secure his signature for between €30-35million (£25-29m).

Fabrizio Romano also provides an update on Gravenberch’s situation. He states Bayern have made a bid worth an initial €15m (£12.6m), plus up to €10m (£8.4m) in bonuses.

Man United and Bayern both in for Ryan Gravenberch

Man United and Bayern both in for Ryan Gravenberch this summer.

The only thing standing in Bayern’s way is Ajax’s demands. They want at least €25m (£21m) up front, with negotiations ongoing.

Romano also confirms Gravenberch’s desire to leave Ajax as he will not pen a new deal there.

Edinson Cavani transfer update

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are reportedly back in the mix for United striker Edinson Cavani after failing to land him in 2020.

Cavani became a free agent that summer after opting to leave PSG at the end of his contract. United, Chelsea, Atletico and Inter were all monitoring the situation.

Ultimately it was United who won the race – but a form of transfer revenge could now be on the cards.

Sports Mole, who cite reports in Italy, claim Inter hold a firm interest in Cavani and want to engineer a deal later this year.

Inter plan to bolster their attack and see Cavani as an ideal solution. He knows Serie A well too, from his time at Palermo and then Napoli.
