Man Utd make Madrid transfer trip double edged, after arranging meeting for Atletico star Joao Felix
Manchester United officials have met with the entourage of Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix while in the Spanish capital to discuss Real Madrid’s Casemiro, according to reports.
It could be a busy last couple of weeks of the transfer window for Manchester United. A poor start to the Premier League season has heightened calls for them to make more signings. They need to reinforce their midfield and attack.
For the midfield role, they have been pursuing Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot. But with neither looking gettable now, the attention has turned to Real Madrid’s Casemiro.
As relayed by Marca, Manchester United have sent officials to the Spanish capital to explore a deal for the Brazil international. They could be making a €60million (£50.5million) offer.
But Casemiro is not the only player that Man Utd are in Madrid to discuss. Elsewhere, they are supposedly keen to talk about Atletico Madrid forward, Felix.
Marca claim that Man Utd representatives met with Felix’s entourage on Tuesday night. The Premier League club have also informed their La Liga counterparts of an intention to bid for the Portugal international.
However, Atletico have responded with a stance that Felix is not for sale. He is under contract with them until 2026. Still only 22 years old, he has plenty of room to develop into an even brighter talent.
But Manchester United are tipped by the Spanish source to make further approaches about Felix – and Casemiro – within the next few days.
Could Man Utd give Joao Felix new lease of life?
A few years ago, when he was at Benfica, it seemed like Felix was all the rage. Atletico ultimately won the battle for his services in 2019.
Since then, he has scored 29 goals from 112 appearances for them. Whether he could fulfil his potential better elsewhere is a debate that has sprung to mind for many.
Could Man Utd be the place for him to flourish? It could be a difficult environment in its own way, in all honesty. But it would be interesting to see how he would get on in the Premier League.
That said, United would likely have to make a major payment to secure Felix’s services. It remains unclear whether they can afford deals of that magnitude while they are after someone like Casemiro for another area of the pitch as well.
Real are also optimistic of keeping Casemiro. But Marca note that nothing can be ruled out until the transfer window closes on September 1.
Undoubtedly, both would be eye-catching signings for Man Utd. But they have learned this summer that some of their ideas are easier said than done.
And with Champions League football on offer for both Madrid clubs, but not United, it may also be a battle to convince either player to move.
