Man Utd backed to succeed with ‘serious offer’ for midfield alternative ‘very much interested’ in Old Trafford transfer

Karol Linetty and Davide Frattesi

Manchester United would stand a good chance of signing Davide Frattesi if they were to firm up their interest, a reporter has hinted.

Frattesi has emerged onto Man Utd’s radar in recent weeks thanks to his form for Sassuolo. Over the summer, Roma tried to re-sign their former academy product, but since the season began, he has been attracting interest from the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton were among the first English clubs to take a look at Frattesi. More recently, though, Man Utd have come into the equation.

Reports in Italy have suggested that the Red Devils have been scouting Frattesi. He could add new energy to a midfield that currently comprises of the likes of Casemiro, Fred, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen.

Indeed, Man Utd have already been thinking about how to evolve the position. In the summer, they wanted to reunite manager Erik ten Hag with ex-Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, but they couldn’t prise him away from Barcelona.

Instead, they brought in Casemiro from Real Madrid, after already adding Eriksen on a free transfer after his spell with Brentford ended.

But there could be a call for Man Utd to make further adjustments to their engine room. With that in mind, links with Frattesi – who is under contract with Sassuolo until 2026 – could continue.

And according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Man Utd should be able to tempt both Sassuolo and Frattesi into making a deal happen if they want to.

Frattesi and Sassuolo could be tempted by Man Utd

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke provided the lowdown on the idea of Frattesi being an alternative target to De Jong.

The reporter said: “Frattesi would definitely be a cheaper alternative and I think if Man United were to make a serious offer, Sassuolo would find it hard to find down.

“And I’m sure Frattesi would be very much interested in a potential move to the Premier League to such a big club like Manchester United.”

Frattesi has spent his entire professional career so far playing within Italy. He endured loan spells with Ascoli, Empoli and Monza in Serie B before earning his chance with his parent club last season.

Sassuolo saw their number 16 score four goals from 38 appearances upon his integration into their setup in 2021-22. This season so far, he has added another four goals from just 16 appearances.

Becoming a dynamic talent, he may have a higher ceiling than what Sassuolo can offer. Therefore, clubs like Man Utd will naturally be taking note of his potential.

A move to Old Trafford might be too soon at this stage of his career. But if they are serious about him, then as O’Rourke has affirmed, Man Utd could be hard for Frattesi to turn down.
