Man Utd handed boost as Premier League target could be available at cut price to solve Ten Hag conundrum

Manchester United have been handed a boost in search of a new goalkeeper as one of their primary targets could be available at a cut-price.

With the future of David De Gea still up in the air, Man Utd are in the market for a goalkeeper this summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper is yet to agree upon a new deal with the club as he could leave this summer on a free transfer.

While his future remains up in the air, Erik ten Hag has been scouring the market for his replacement. Plenty of names have been mentioned, including Everton’s Jordan Pickford.

The England international has been a player of interest for some time now. It recently transpired that Man Utd were ready to launch a £45m bid for the 29-year-old.

However, he could be available for a heavily discounted price this summer. According to The Sun, Everton are looking to sell one of their ‘big-hitters’ this week to balance the books.

The Toffees are trying to raise cash before their end-of-year accounts close for the 2022-23 season. As a result of their situation, they could be forced to sell a player like Pickford below his valuation.

While they are said to rate Pickford at around £45m, they could be tempted to sell him for less if they can guarantee a sale in the next few days.

The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Amadou Onana have also been linked with moves away of late.

Man Utd have other goalkeeper targets

Man Utd have been linked with several other goalkeepers, although Pickford could prove to be the cheapest option, especially if Everton are prepared to lower their asking price.

Inter’s Andre Onana has been heavily linked to Old Trafford after a superb campaign in Italy. Likewise, Porto’s Diogo Costa has also been linked of late.

However, these goalkeepers could come at a premium cost. If Man Utd are reluctant to spend big on a goalkeeper, Pickford could be their best option right now.

With Ten Hag also keen on signing a striker and midfielder this summer, Man Utd could look to save money by signing Pickford at a discounted price.

As things stand, Man Utd are focusing most of their efforts on signing Chelsea’s Mason Mount. Ten Hag’s side have tabled a £55m bid for the Chelsea star as they look to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.

Fabrizio Romano has clarified that while Man Utd are keen on signing Mount, they won’t wait around forever for the England international.

“Understand Mason Mount’s side stance remains clear: no plans to sign new deal as things stand. Man United now or free agent in 2024,” Romano clarified.

Once the Mount saga is concluded, Man Utd are expected to turn their attention to the goalkeeping and striker department.
