Manchester United have now put a package worth more than £50m on the table for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Man Utd have been working on a deal to sign Hojlund in recent weeks, offering him the chance to change clubs for the second summer in a row. Aware of his high potential, Atalanta have been asking for a high price to let him go.

But Hojlund has still been a more accessible target in terms of value than some of the other options Man Utd were looking at earlier in the summer. Therefore, he has become their chosen target up front.

What helps is that the player himself is especially keen to join Man Utd. In fact, personal terms would quickly be signed off as soon as Atalanta accepted a bid.

But that first step has to be resolved first, which is why Man Utd have been preparing their latest offer for the Denmark international. And according to Romano, it arrived on Friday.

The transfer expert shared via his Twitter account that ‘direct talks’ between the two clubs on Friday led to Man Utd making an ‘improved’ bid.

Now, the package they have proposed to Atalanta would come to more than €60m (£51.5m or more). In turn, the negotiations are continuing.

The former Sturm Graz striker should be under contract in Bergamo until 2027. His adventure with them could conclude after 34 appearances and 10 goals, though.

Hojlund firmly in favour of making Man Utd move

Romano has reiterated that Hojlund is ‘very clear’ that he ‘wants’ to join Man Utd. They could be about to give him his first taste of Premier League football, while also offering him a platform in the Champions League.

It is not yet entirely clear how Atalanta will respond to the latest offer on the table for the 20-year-old. But it is evident by now that Man Utd are serious about acquiring him.

They have been facing competition from Paris Saint-Germain, but as stated, Hojlund has a clear preference in mind for Man Utd.

And as and when Man Utd can get his signing over the line, they will accelerate their plans to strengthen in other positions.

Per Romano, they will ‘focus’ on strengthening in other areas ‘right after’ they wrap up the Hojlund transfer. While he has not specified what those positions are, midfield might be included, as could finding a backup goalkeeper to new number one, Andre Onana.
