Man Utd deal coming, as Fabrizio Romano reveals they’re convinced they won’t lose money on £46m pair

Man Utd attackers Facundo Pellistri, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga

A Man Utd deal that could quickly tee up a second agreement is in the works at Old Trafford after Fabrizio Romano shed light on the futures of two attacking stars.

Even with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Man Utd six months early, Erik ten Hag still boasts an embarassment of riches in the final third.

Indeed, the Dutchman can call upon Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Facundo Pellistri, Anthony Elanga and loanee Wout Weghorst. Elsewhere, Amad Diallo is thriving while out on loan at Sunderland.

The Red Devils will add even more firepower to their ranks this summer with a new centre-forward their top priority. Even if Weghorst isn’t signed permanently and the exit-linked Martial departs, Ten Hag’s forward options will still be the envy of many.

As such, what the future holds for those further down the pecking order is as yet unclear. Aiming to shed light on the situation, Fabrizio Romano recently provided an update on Pellistri and Diallo.

Pellistri, 21, has made five appearances for United since the World Cup and made his first start for the club in the Europa League against Real Betis.

Diallo, meanwhile, has scored nine and assisted two for Championship side Sunderland, with all 11 of those goal contributions coming since mid-October.

What’s next for Pellistri and Diallo?

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano claimed decisions on what United will do with the pair will be made in April or May. At present, three options are open – retaining them in Ten Hag’s squad next season, a loan exit ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, or a permanent sale.

But before then, the Red Devils reportedly plan to tie Pellistri down to a new deal first. That would be a strong indication the Uruguay international does indeed have a future in Manchester.

Permanent exits for either of the duo look increasingly unlikely with Romano insistent United are overjoyed with the progress the pair are making.

Furthermore, the transfer guru reported United are convinced that in the event they do cash in, United believe they won’t incur a loss on the pair who were signed for a combined £46m (Pellistri – £9m, Diallo – £37m (including add-ons)).

“Ten Hag didn’t approve a loan move for Pellistri in January,” said Romano. “He wanted the player to stay.

“Pellistri had many proposals – Bologna and Sassuolo in Italy, some Spanish clubs but also Flamengo in Brazil.”

Romano continued: “Man Utd will make a decision on both of them between April and May. They will discuss with the players’ agents to decide [what’s next].

“They (United) are convinced with these two players that they will not lose money and so it means the plan (to invest heavily in younger players in 2020) was smart and good.

“What’s going on right now is that for Pellistri, Man Utd are prepared to offer him a new contract and then decide if they want to send him on loan next season or keep him in the squad. This is something that, of course, has to be decided with Ten Hag.

“For Amad Diallo, they want him to play and play and play. He’s always doing well when he’s on the pitch, but he deserves to play in the starting eleven.

“Ten Hag really appreciated his approach and his attitude while out on loan. They’ll make a decision on these two players [in April/May], but United feel they are not going to lose money with Diallo and Pellistri.

“They could be two really important players for the future of the club.”
