Exclusive: Man Utd find taker for Brandon Williams as Ipswich prepare to sign defender on loan

Man Utd full-back Brandon Williams

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams is about to leave the club in order to join Ipswich Town on loan, TEAMtalk can confirm.

Williams has been on the books at Man Utd since 2008 and made his debut for the first team in 2019. However, he only made one appearance for them last season – in the Carabao Cup, not the Premier League – after returning from a loan spell at Norwich City.

Now, TEAMtalk can reveal Williams is ready to join Ipswich on loan as his next step.

As a result, he will be managed by former Man Utd coach Kieran McKenna, who led Ipswich to promotion out of League One last season.

Williams is under contract with Man Utd until the end of the current season, with the option of a further year. But Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are ahead of him in the pecking order at left-back, and Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are in his way at right-back.

At the age of 22, Williams is now set for his first taste of Championship football by heading to Portman Road. Williams will become Ipswich’s second loan signing from a Premier League club this summer after they brought in Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea.

He has made 51 appearances for Man Utd in total, scoring once, while he made 29 appearances when he was at Norwich.
