Man Utd goalkeeper link heightens with target now expected to oust De Gea in summer shakeup

Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou – and the repercussions for David de Gea are becoming more apparent.

Man Utd need to give serious thought to what their goalkeeping department will look like next season. It has already undergone some evolution this season, but not necessarily to the right effect.

De Gea remains their first-choice goalkeeper, but he is out of contract at the end of the season. As such, there have been doubts about his long-term future.

United have also been looking for a new backup option after Newcastle decided to recall Martin Dubravka from his loan spell at Old Trafford.

Hence, Erik ten Hag’s team might need to incorporate new goalkeepers both in January and the summer. They also have to weigh up what to do with Dean Henderson after his loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

While they deliberate over their options, links have emerged between the club and Sevilla goalkeeper, Bono.

In fact, there have recently been claims that United have begun talking to the Morocco international’s entourage.

Now, Estadio Deportivo has added weight to the suggestions of Bono moving to Man Utd. According to the Spanish source, the Premier League side have identified him as someone who can be their number one for a few seasons to come.

However, they will not be able to sign the 31-year-old in January. Sevilla, who are currently in La Liga’s relegation zone, are planning to keep hold of him. Besides, while De Gea is still at the club, Man Utd would not be able to guarantee him the role of number one.

In the summer, though, if De Gea leaves at the end of his contract, there could be an opening for the former Atletico Madrid B player.

Sevilla set Bono succession plan to boost Man Utd hopes

The report also adds that Sevilla know they can call upon current backup, the experienced Serbian international Marko Dmitrovic, as a potential ready-made successor to Bono for next season.

Therefore, Man Utd might have a good chance of replacing De Gea with Bono in the summer.

For what it’s worth, Bono’s contract with Sevilla is due to run until 2025. The La Liga side will still want a decent transfer fee for him, but aren’t too afraid of losing their current number one.

Man Utd could be the potential buyers in that case. It will be interesting to see if Sevilla suffer relegation and how that might affect their negotiating stance regarding Bono.

But for now, United are simply keeping up their pursuit of the World Cup semi-finalist.

Bono has played 17 times for Sevilla this season, keeping two clean sheets and conceding 32 goals. His all-time record for the club reads 121 appearances, 53 clean sheets and 110 goals conceded.
