Man Utd ‘highly interested’ in ‘exceptional’ Premier League midfielder, trusted source claims as Red Devils replicate Liverpool transfer plan

Manchester United have revived their interest in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo and are hoping to beat Liverpool to his signature, according to a respected reporter.
Caicedo was on Man Utd’s radar before he joined Brighton instead. The Ecuadorian talent has since been making a name for himself at the Amex Stadium. So far this season, he has been virtually ever-present, starting all 14 Premier League games available to him.
Still only 21 years old, Caicedo has a bright future ahead of him. Big clubs like Man Utd will be resurrecting their previous interest as a result.
According to trustworthy transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man Utd chiefs are “highly interested” in Caicedo. With that in mind, they are ready to “enter the race” for his signature.
The Sky Sports Deutschland journalist has also carried claims that Caicedo is an “exceptional” player in the eyes of his current teammates.
There seems to be an increasing awareness even outside of Brighton that that is the case. Indeed, Plettenberg has relayed that “many other top clubs” are competing for his signature, along with Man Utd.
Liverpool are one who get a namecheck in his tweet. They are aiming to reinforce their midfield in 2023, which is the same year deals for Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo are due to end.
As for Man Utd, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen arrived in the summer to compete with the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred. However, Donny van de Beek is facing an uncertain future, so work might not yet be done in that department.
Caicedo remains under contract with Brighton until 2025. They hope to keep him into next season, but a big bid from either Man Utd or Liverpool could give them something to think about.
Would Moises Caicedo be better off at Man Utd or Liverpool?
If the time does come for Caicedo to leave Brighton, it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
In theory, Liverpool’s need for a new midfielder may be greater than Man Utd’s. But there could be vacancies at either destination.
He has generally been playing as a holding midfielder in a double pivot for Brighton this season. In that regard, there may be more similarity with Man Utd’s system than Liverpool’s.
And with United’s interest already established for a long time, a move to Manchester might make sense for Caicedo.
For now, he will be continuing to focus on his development with Brighton, who went into the World Cup break seventh in the Premier League. In comparison, Man Utd are fifth and Liverpool are sixth.
