Manchester United have been handed a boost as Eric Bailly has taken another step towards the exit door amid interest from Al-Nassr.

It’s no secret that Erik ten Hag has been looking to move the defender on. Bailly spent last season on loan with Marseille but failed to impress.

The French club had the option to take Bailly on a permanent basis but opted not to take him in the end. The defender is under contract until 2024 and the club are desperate to shift him this summer.

Ten Hag omitted the 29-year-old from his pre-season squad as the defender is no longer in his plans for the future.

Bailly has since been on the hunt for a new club and Al-Nassr’s interest has been well documented. The Saudi side also have the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and now Alex Telles.

According to Sky Sports, Bailly is in negotiations with two Saudi clubs over a deal worth up to £20m. This would be a huge boost for Man Utd who are keen to shift the defender as soon as possible.

Bailly himself has spoken to Cristiano Ronaldo regarding the league and lifestyle. The 29-year-old could soon become the next Premier League player to depart for the Saudi Pro League.

Given the huge contract offer currently on the table, this move will surely appeal to Bailly. The 29-year-old has had a fair share of injury problems over the years and a move to Saudi could be best for all parties.

Bailly sale will be a boost

Man Utd are currently focused on a deal for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and any money they receive from the Bailly sale could go towards that deal.

Bailly himself made some interest comments on the culture at Old Trafford while he was out on loan last season. The 29-year-old backed Ten Hag to change the culture at the club.

“The club should avoid favouring English players and give everyone a chance,” Bailly told reporters last year while on loan with Marseille. “The club should] encourage competition in the dressing room, not just look out for some.

“I’ve always had the feeling that the national player was prioritised. That doesn’t happen at Chelsea or other big Premier League clubs.

“Some people take it for granted that they are going to start, and that weakens the team. Luckily, Ten Hag has a lot of character and I hope he can change that dynamic.”

Along with shifting Bailly off the wage bill, Ten Hag will also been keen to get rid of a few more players. A summer exit for Fred still looks like it could be on the cards.

Provided the Brazilian midfielder is sold this summer, Man Utd will target Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat as his replacement.

The likes of Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire could also leave the club this summer as it is currently unclear how much game time they will each get next season.
