Man Utd identify 31-goal Kane alternative who bamboozled England; bargain price tag revealed

Taremi of FC Porto

Manchester United will battle Bayern Munich for the signature of FC Porto centre-forward Medhi Taremi this summer, according to reports.

The Iran international caught the attention of top clubs last year after impressing in the World Cup when he scored two goals against England.

Now, Taremi could leave Porto this summer, and the Portuguese giants have named their price.

It’s no secret that Erik ten Hag is on the hunt for attacking reinforcements. Indeed, while Man Utd enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 campaign, they were somewhat reliant on the goals of Marcus Rashford.

As a result, the Red Devils have made signing a new, quality centre-forward one of their priorities.

For instance, they have been heavily linked with a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, although, signing him now seems unlikely.

Another player linked is Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani. But, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid interested, there is no guarantee they’ll get him, either.

Therefore, Ten Hag may have to switch his attention to alternatives and he has reportedly identified Taremi as a potential target.

Man Utd learn Taremi price tag

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via Sport Witness), Man Utd are ‘ready’ to battle Bayern Munich for Taremi this summer.

The Bundesliga club are reportedly prepared to spend €15m (£12.8m) on the 30-year-old. However, Porto will not accept less than €20m (£17.1m).

This is partly because he has a unique clause in his contract, which means Porto will only receive 85% of Taremi’s transfer fee, while the other 15% goes directly to him.

In 2022/23, Taremi made 51 appearances in all competitions for Porto. In the process, he scored 31 goals, as well as making 14 assists. This gives him an outstanding average of 0.86 goal contributions per match.

Man Utd icon Rio Ferdinand also thinks Taremi would be a good signing for the Red Devils, saying in a recent interview that he would ‘replace Wout Weghorst with the Iranian.’

As it stands, the Red Devils are yet to make a concrete offer for the Porto star.

Interestingly, Taremi isn’t the only forward playing in Portugal that Man Utd have on their radar. As reported by TEAMtalk, Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos remains on Ten Hag’s transfer shortlist.

Man Utd reportedly came close to signing Ramos back in January. So, it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see them go back in for him.

The 21-year-old would be much more expensive than Taremi, though, with a price tag of approximately £80m.
