Man Utd ‘leading the pack’ for €40m France international after Ten Hag admits defeat on dream transfer

Manchester United are reportedly ‘still leading the race’ for Monaco star Axel Disasi, despite growing interest in the centre-back.

It’s no secret that Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster his defence this summer as he looks to build on a successful opening season.

Kim Min-jae was thought to be the manager’s first choice. However, he now looks set to join Bayern Munich. So, Man Utd will have to settle for an alternative.

This comes at a time when Harry Maguire is being increasingly linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Indeed, reports suggest that the Red Devils would be willing to accept a bid of £40m. Obviously, this is significantly less than the £80m they paid for him.

Man Utd are happy with their first-choice pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, with Victor Lindelof as a backup option. But, they are still expected to bring in one new centre-back to replace Maguire.

Now, everything points towards Disasi joining the Red Devils this summer. But, he won’t come cheap, and more clubs are joining the race by the day.

Man Utd ‘still lead the pack’ for Disasi

According to French outlet L’EquipeMan Utd ‘still lead the pack’ for Disasi, despite his ‘growing’ market.

The report notes that ‘other European teams’ are ‘trying to convince’ the 25-year-old to join them instead. Although, he has his mind set on Man Utd at the moment.

Monaco are allegedly waiting for the ‘anticipated transfers’ of both Disasi and Youssouf Fofana.

From selling the duo, they are looking to receive around €70-80m (£60.1m-£68.7m). For just Disasi alone, they want approximately €40m (£34.4m). His contract is valid until 2025.

Last season, Disasi almost every minute of Monaco’s Ligue 1 campaign. In the process, he helped his team to eight clean sheets and scored three goals.

A strong defender, the France international is excellent in the air and reads the game extremely well. He has captained Monaco on multiple occasions, so he is a leader in the dressing room, too.

With that in mind, Man Utd are expected to make a concrete bid for Disasi in the near future. Unless, they make one more last-ditch attempt to sign Min-jae ahead of Bayern. Although, that seems very unlikely.
