Man Utd made aware of steep £85m asking price for in-demand European star on their radar

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Lazio v Hellas Verona May 2022

Manchester United have recently learnt the steep asking price it will take to prize Sergej Milinkovic-Savic away from Lazio.

The Lazio midfielder has been one of the best players in Serie A this season. In 14 appearances he has produced three goals and seven assists already.

Lazio have been going well in Serie A so far as they currently sit fourth in the table with 30 points. Milinkovic-Savic has been one of their best players and they are keen on keeping him around.

Despite their desire to keep hold of him, they are well aware of his current contract situation. His deal with Lazio runs until 2024 and they are keen on not losing him for less than he is worth.

Several top European clubs have all declared their interest in the 27-year-old, including several Premier League outfits.

Man Utd’s interest in the midfielder has been fairly long-standing as they have considered moving for him in previous transfer windows.

A report from Calciomercato.it has claimed that Lazio chief Claudio Lotito is ‘hoping for’ a team outside of Italy to come in for Milinkovic-Savic.

Juventus have been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder, but are not prepared to pay the reported €100m (£85m) it will take to land the player.

As this is the case the players agent has been ‘travelling around Europe’ to sound out potential offers for his client ahead of the January transfer window.

Man Utd have other targets

As Erik ten Hag continues the Man Utd rebuild, he is keen on adding to his current midfield options.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have so far proven to be good signings. Fred has also had a new lease of life under the new manager.

With that being said, United are still in need of another creative midfielder. Ten Hag’s side have only scored 20 Premier League goals and are currently projected to score just over 50 goals across the entire season.

A player as versatile as Milinkovic-Savic would of course be a welcomed addition at Old Trafford, but they do have alternative targets in mind.

After they spent the entire summer chasing Frenkie de Jong to no avail, they will be keen to avoid mistakes of the past.

In recent weeks the likes of Moises Caicedo and Christian Pulisic have been linked with moves to Old Trafford.

As Man Utd are in a race for the top four, Ten Hag will be keen on adding all the reinforcements he can. His side currently sit fifth in the table and are three points away from Spurs with a game in hand.

Ten Hag has slowly started to integrate his philosophy at the club, but he has run into some stumbling blocks early on.

Now that the Cristiano Ronaldo situation has finally been ironed out, Ten Hag can switch his attention back on making the top four.
