Man Utd make striker approach with huge bid required to satisfy ‘greedy’ Bundesliga sellers

Randal Kolo Muani and Jesper Lindstrom

Manchester United have made a request to sign a striker who has been lighting up the Bundesliga this season, according to a report in the player’s home country.

Finding a new centre-forward is a priority task for Man Utd ahead of the summer transfer window. They took Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in January as a short-term solution up front. But in the bigger picture, they need an elite option to lead the line.

Several names are on their shortlist. There have been links, for example, with England captain Harry Kane. But the latest reports suggest Tottenham Hotspur will not sell him to another Premier League side.

Hence, Man Utd are having to broaden their horizons. They could consider someone like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as one solution. Yet another could be Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.

The Frenchman began to be linked with Man Utd in January, after he had been on World Cup duty. There were some suggestions of a move that month, but it always seemed too soon for him to leave a club he had only just joined in the summer.

However, Eintracht Frankfurt are once again bracing themselves for possible approaches for Kolo Muani. According to L’Equipe, Man Utd have “requested” to sign him.

Understandably, his current employers are not quite ready to see the back of him. Yet they have the chance of making a major profit on him, since he joined them on a free transfer.

Becoming “greedy”, according to the report, Frankfurt are now hoping to earn as much as €100million (£89m) from Kolo Muani’s potential exit.

The 24-year-old has scored 12 goals and made 13 assists from 27 appearances in all competitions so far this season. He has mainly played as a centre-forward, but can also operate from the right wing.

Man Utd could make Kolo Muani their next attacker

Therefore, he could complement what Man Utd already have in their attack. He wouldn’t necessarily steal the limelight from some of their other options, like Marcus Rashford, but could add a new element into the mix.

Besides, his compatriot Anthony Martial is now being linked with a move away from Man Utd. Hence, Kolo Muani could help to fill the void.

He has never played in the Premier League before, but this could be the time to make the most of his sudden ascent. Kolo Muani’s best years could yet be ahead of him, so he will be keen to spend them at the top level.

Man Utd seem to be on track again under Erik ten Hag. Therefore, they could be a good destination for Kolo Muani to pick.

Alternatively, L’Equipe are linking him with their rivals Liverpool as well. But Jurgen Klopp’s attack is already well stocked, so their need for him might be lower than Man Utd’s.

Still, they signed Cody Gakpo partially to prevent Man Utd getting their hands on him. So, perhaps the Red Devils still need to be wary of Liverpool as a potential threat for Kolo Muani.

Either way, all signs seem to be pointing towards a Premier League move for the former Nantes attacker.
