Man Utd schedule talks to resolve transfer of attacker Ten Hag has left in limbo, as Fabrizio Romano confirms three separate offers
The future of a Man Utd forward is coming to a head after a new round of talks that’ll determine his fate were scheduled, while Fabrizio Romano has confirmed three separate offers have already been received and another is rumoured.
Manchester United settled on Dutch international Wout Weghorst as their replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo this month. Weghorst has arrived on a six-month loan, though TEAMtalk exclusively revealed the player’s chances of securing a permanent deal.
With United’s transfer budget widely reported to be a small one, Weghorst may be the final new arrival at Old Trafford this month. Jack Butland also arrived on loan from Crystal Palace on January 6.
Exits appear to be the order of the day, with a recent report detailing three first-teamers who’ve been told they’re free to leave.
Anthony Elanga too is attracting interest, with Everton and Bournemouth now joined by a European giant. The Swede’s future could hinge on how quickly Jadon Sancho is brought back into the fold.
However, today’s update regards a different attacker – Facundo Pellistri.
Pellistri debut may be a false dawn
The Uruguayan finally made his long-awaited Man Utd debut against Charlton Athletic on January 10.
The 22-year-old had been loaned out twice to Spanish side Alaves upon joining from Penarol in 2020. He was retained in Erik ten Hag’s squad for the current campaign, and after being an unused substitute on 13 successive occasions, got the nod in the 3-0 EFL Cup victory against the Addicks.
Pellistri impressed, grabbing an assist for Marcus Rashford’s first goal and showing endeavour on the defensive side of the game too.
That sparked hope he may finally be given a run of games to prove his worth, especially with United still going strong in four competitions.
However, Fabrizio Romano has reported a new round of talks between United and Pellistri’s agent has been scheduled. The aim is to determine whether Pellistri should be loaned out, and if so, where.
Three Man Utd offers tabled, another rumoured
The Telegraph recently reported Championship side Watford were mulling a move. However, it was later claimed by the Athletic Pellistri isn’t keen on dropping a division.
Thankfully for the player, there appears to be no shortage of suitors in the event another loan is required.
Romano reported three separate loan bids have been made by Valencia, Bologna and Flamengo.
Those offers were made earlier in the window, with Ten Hag still reportedly undecided on whether to retain Pellistri. His conundrum is an obvious one.
If Pellistri is retained, it’s unlikely he’ll feature regularly and his development will be stunted. United can already call upon Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Garnacho and Elanga for the wide berths.
However, the fixture list is more congested than ever and injuries will become even more commonplace as the season rolls on. Loaning Pellistri out and then finding himself short on cover in the event injuries do bite would look foolish on Ten Hag’s end.
As such, Pellistri has remained in limbo for the time being, though the new round of talks should resolve his situation once and for all.
