Man Utd set to beat Liverpool, Arsenal to £55m Chelsea signing thanks to Ten Hag brilliance

Man Utd are getting in their own way in the race to sign £55m-rated Chelsea ace Mason Mount, though a report claims a deal ‘will eventually be done’ at the expense of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Mount, 24, looks certain to be on the move this summer. Such an exit would’ve been near-unthinkable in the not too distant past, especially given Mount is a two-time and reigning Chelsea Player of the Year.

However, his role has diminished this season and with the Blues missing out on European football altogether, an exit is likely.

Mount’s current contract is due to expire at the end of next season and talks with incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino aren’t expected to result in a breakthrough.

Mount has already appointed Neil Fewings of the ROOF agency to oversee a move and Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd have registered their interest.

If and when contract talks at Stamford Bridge come to nothing, Chelsea will greenlight a sale to avoid losing a highly saleable asset for nothing 12 months later.

The Athletic recently reported Mount has chosen Man Utd as his preferred destination. That’s not stopped Liverpool and Arsenal continuing to explore a move, though it does give Man Utd a distinct advantage.

What’s more, the Red Devils recently secured Champions League football for next season. Liverpool, meanwhile, have been made to settle for the less prestigious Europa League.

Now, a fresh update from the Independent has shed new light on what’s in store for Mount.

Mount to Man Utd there for the making

Firstly, it’s noted Man Utd and risking Ten Hag’s wrath by thus far refusing to meet Chelsea’s valuation.

The Blues want ‘at least £55m’ for the England international and as yet, United are ‘some way off’ agreeing to pay that figure.

However, the report goes on to state that in lieu of Mount choosing Man Utd, ‘it is felt a deal will eventually be done’.

Explaining why Mount is hell bent on joining the Red Devils, it’s claimed Ten Hag is the primary reason why.

Indeed, the Dutch boss is understood to have laid out the ‘clearest idea’ over how Mount will be used if signing. What’s more, Mount reportedly believes Ten Hag’s system and tactics is the best fit for his game.

Until Man Utd stump up the type of fee Chelsea are demanding, Liverpool and Arsenal will remain in the race.

However, United’s presence in the UCL, Mount’s preference and Ten Hag’s man-management are all combining to make Man Utd the clear favourite.

Once United stump up a suitable offer, a move should be relatively straightforward.
