Man Utd star has two high profile managers gushing, as Ten Hag brilliance helps secure imminent forward deal

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford of Man Utd

A Man Utd attacker who’s given Erik ten Hag a huge lift at just the right time has earned rave reviews from two high profile managers.

Marcus Rashford has bounced back in style following a truly dismal campaign last year. The 25-year-old has eight goals and three assists to his name for Manchester United this season. Both those tallies surpass his totals from all of the previous campaign (five goals, two assists).

Rashford has looked a man on a mission since Erik ten Hag took charge and the Dutchman deserves great credit for turning his forward’s career around.

England boss Gareth Southgate is another who has Ten Hag to thank, with Rashford currently joint-top scoring at the World Cup with three goals.

Rashford’s importance to Man Utd has swelled of late following Cristiano Ronaldo’s premature exit.

Rashford and Anthony Martial are the only two senior and recognised options Ten Hag has for the centre-forward role at present.

A new striker is on the agenda in January, though Rashford will take some displacing given his superb form of late.

His exploits have also caught the eye of two high profile managers – Mauricio Pochettino and Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Sven wishes for Rashford alongside Gerrard, Beckham, Rooney…

Eriksson managed England between 2001-06 and via the Manchester Evening News, named Rashford as the one player he’d loved to have coached back in the early 2000s.

“I’d have loved to coach Rashford,” said the Swede. “He’s a fantastic football player.

“To have a runner like that with his speed in the team, he’ll always create danger for the opponents.

“We had some top players in my time but he’s one player I’d have loved to have in my squad.”

Former Tottenham and PSG boss, Pochettino, has also spoken highly of Rashford.

The Argentine told Sky Sports: “I’ve always liked him, I knew of his process because I was in England, but I think he’s a great player.

“He just needs the confidence and for himself to believe, to put him at the top level. The quality is there for him.”

Ten Hag has succeeded in putting the confidence Pochettino references back into Rashford. What’s more, the attacker now seems poised to commit his long-term future at Old Trafford. With Ronaldo leaving United mid-season, Rashford’s imminent new deal is perfectly times for Ten Hag.

Big win for Ten Hag looms

Rashford’s current deal expires next summer, though United do hold an option for an extra 12 months.

But rather than trigger that option, the Mirror report United are understandably pushing to tie Rashford down to a longer-term and more lucrative deal.

In good news for all United fans, Rashford views his future the same way and the player’s priority is now to remain at his boyhood club for the long haul.

He had been tentatively linked with PSG last summer, though it now appears any transfer interest is likely to be met with a swift rejection, both from Man Utd as well as Rashford.

Talks over a new contract extension, per the Mirror, will take place after the World Cup concludes.
