Man Utd, Tottenham join Aston Villa in ‘intense’ Brighton talks as stunning deadline day move ‘could happen’

Tottenham, Manchester United and Aston Villa are reportedly vying for the signature of Brighton star Yves Bissouma but will need to dig deep to get him.

The 25-year-old has long been linked with a move away from the Amex after his stellar displays for the Seagulls. The Mali international has made 110 appearances for the south-coast outfit after joining in the summer of 2018. Albion paid Lille in the region of £15m for the African but any suitor will now need to fork out considerably more.

Villa’s interest in the schemer has been well documented over the past few weeks. And it was said earlier this month that Steven Gerrard was prepared to go head-to-head with Liverpool for the player.

However, the Reds interest seems to have cooled. And that is despite former Anfield great John Barnes urging Jurgen Klopp to sign him ahead of other midfielders.

“(Youri) Tielemans is a very good hardworking midfielder,” he said. “But if you look at the nature of what Liverpool midfielders do, in terms of their physicality and the ability to get up and down the field, that isn’t necessarily what Tielemans does.

“Youri is excellent in possession and is perhaps maybe more Manchester City’s style of player. Yves Bissouma would suit the Liverpool style more than Tielemans would. The same as he would with Jude Bellingham.”

French journalist Fabrice Hawkins does not see the Merseysiders as contenders for Bissouma. He took to Twitter to give an update on the clubs involved and the current price tag.

“Yves Bissouma could leave Brighton,” he tweeted. “Three clubs are trying to sign him: Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United. The discussions are intense.

Man Utd Bissouma link comes from left field

Rumours of players moving to big clubs need to be taken with a pinch of salt this time of year. United have not been linked with Bissouma in recent times but the report claims ‘intense’ talks are under way.

The same is true of Spurs, who look set to land Rodrigo Bentancur – a player in the same ilk as Bissouma. The Villa link appears more realistic but Steven Gerrard has already landed four targets this month.

All will be revealed on Monday night as the January window closes and clubs will then have to go with what they have already got.
