Man Utd transfer news: Star is broken and regrets decision to ever sign for Red Devils as cut-price £13.5m move across Prem beckons

Manchester United are seemingly ready to sell Donny van de Beek in the January window after a transfer journalist detailed a potential cut-price £13.5m across the Premier League was gathering pace.
The Netherlands midfielder arrived at Old Trafford in an initial £35m move from Ajax in summer 2020. Seen as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba at the time, Van de Beek arrived with an impressive record at the Eredivisie club. However, the move for United has rarely looked like working out.
Indeed, Van de Beek has been limited to just 53 appearances for the Red Devils, with just four Premier League starts to his name. Indeed, he was allowed to sign for Everton on loan for the second half of last season.
Now back at Old Trafford, he will have hoped the appointment of Erik ten Hag – his former coach at Ajax – could have provided him with more opportunities to impress.
And while Ten Hag is adamant that chances will come his way, Van de Beek has only featured for 19 minutes in the Premier League so far this season.
That lack of action threatens to see the player lose his place in the Netherlands squad for the World Cup. And the failure to make the cut for Louis van Gaal at Qatar 2022 will surely leave Van de Beek with little choice but to seek pastures new.
As such, reports recently have indicated that Ten Hag has decided that Van de Beek is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
United brought in Casemiro over the summer and, after waiting patiently for his chance, now looks set to become a regular fixture in the team. His qualities have certainly impressed Rio Ferdinand.
Donny van de Beek ready for Leicester move
And with Ten Hag still scouring the market for new midfielders – links to Frenkie de Jong refuse to go away – it looks increasingly likely that Van de Beek will be allowed to depart.
Indeed, reports have recently linked the midfielder with a move to Leicester. The Foxes have endured a tough start to the season and currently sit in 19th with just one win to their name all season. And Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth leaves them with just four points on the board all season.
It also looks likely to get worse before it gets better for Leicester.
They face a losing battle in keeping Youri Tielemans, with the Belgian’s deal due to expire next summer. He is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas suitor on January 1, though Leicester will look to sell him in January to avoid that scenario.
And vultures are hovering over star man James Maddison, who, despite Leicester’s struggles, is personally enjoying an excellent campaign.
With that in mind, Leicester are seemingly looking into a January swoop for Van de Beek.
Now, transfer journalist Ekrem Konur claims the Foxes are looking increasingly likely to swoop for the Dutchman. And it seems United are ready to cut their losses on the 25-year-old with Konur claiming a fee of just £13.5m (€15m) is in the works.
Star regrets decision to join Man Utd
A move away from Old Trafford will come as no surprise to anyone.
Van de Beek has cut a miserable figure during his two years with United and has seen his career badly stagnate. All the early promise he illustrated at Ajax has long gone out the window. And he most certainly needs a move to get his career back on track before it is too late.
Inter Milan are also among those considering an approach for his services if reports in Italy are accurate. Either way, it seems United will have little trouble finding a taker for the 19-cap star.
However, doubts over the wisdom in his move to Old Trafford are certainly rearing their head once again.
Journalist Dean Jones claims the player now may regret his decision to sign for United in September 2020.
“There must be part of him that wishes he’d never even joined,” Jones told Givemesport.
“But there have always been other Premier League clubs interested in him. I’m sure he knows that there are other solutions out there for him if he needs one.”
Van de Beek reportedly earns £120,000 a week at Old Trafford and getting those wages off the books at Old Trafford will certainly aid United in their quest to strengthen their squad.
