Man Utd transfers: Brazilian gem ‘loved’ by Barcelona responds to claims he could replace trusted Ten Hag star

Vanderson is wanted by Manchester United and Barcelona

Monaco star Vanderson admits he is delighted to see his name being linked with lucrative moves to Manchester United and Barcelona amid claims Erik ten Hag is plotting a 2024 approach for his services.

The Red Devils went into the summer window wanting to strengthen their right-back options, but ultimately putting the plan on ice as other priorities came to the fore. Indeed, after spending the best part of £200m on seven new players – and all their incomings and outgoings have been rated here – United instead put their focus on a new goalkeeper, a new striker and two new midfielders.

They ultimately ended up also having to bring in a new left-back after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia left Ten Hag short of options. Diogo Dalot has been asked to fill in at left-back in the meantime and prior to the capture of Sergio Reguilon on a short-term deal from Tottenham.

Indeed, Ten Hag’s decision to switch Dalot from right-back to left-back summed up just how important Aaron Wan-Bissaka has become to United, where he is now first-choice right-back in the pecking order.

It’s been quite the turnaround for the former Crystal Palace man with his rise in importance making a mockery of Ten Hag’s plans earlier this year to potentially listen to offers for the 25-year-old.

Now it seems Dalot’s future at United is the one in jeopardy and the club are once again being linked with a move for a potential replacement in the form of Monaco right-back Vanderson.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since his move to Monaco from Gremio in January 2022.

Vanderson responds to Man Utd transfer rumours

Now regarded as one of the best in the world in his position, he has this year marked his rise with his international debut for Brazil.

Predictably, that form has also brought him many admirers with both United and Barcelona among those to have been credited with an interest in recent times.

Indeed, Vanderson is reportedly emerging as a priority target for Ten Hag in 2024 as the United boss looks to return to the issue of strengthening the right-side of his defence.

Now the player has opened up on the speculation and admits he’s flattered to hear his name linked with such footballing institutions.

“It’s great to hear Barcelona and United ‘love’ you,” Vanderson explained.

“It’s fantastic to know your name is being mentioned by the big clubs. But, now I’m focused only on Monaco.”

Vanderson, who has made 61 appearances for Monaco, scoring three times and adding six assists, is contracted to the Stade Louis II until summer 2027.

The Ligue 1 side rate the player at around the €60m (£51.5m) mark.
