Man Utd transfers: Kim Min-jae hope remains for Ten Hag as Bayern eye former Solskjaer target as Plan B

Manchester United remain firmly in the hunt to sign Kim Min-jae after new details emerged over Bayern Munich’s pursuit of the Napoli defender.

Kim has emerged as solid transfer target for Erik ten Hag as he looks to strengthen his squad. Indeed, with Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones departing, the potential sale of Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly means the Red Devils will need a new central defensive option.

That is where Kim comes into play, having established himself as one of the world’s best while at Napoli. Signing for a bargain €18m (£15.4m) from Fenerbahce, the 26-year-old has proved an exceptional signing.

Indeed, he proved a rock-solid performer in the heart of the Gli Azzurri’s rearguard. And their mean defence was breached just 28 times as they steamrollered their way to Serie A glory.

But with a worrying €60m clause in his deal, Napoli are facing up to the South Korean’s likely exit.

To that end, United have been chasing his signing for most of the year. And reports earlier this month suggested an agreement had been struck to bring Kim to Old Trafford on July 1 when that £51.5m clause kicked into affect.

Worryingly, a report on Thursday suggested Kim has since had a change of heart on the move. And rather than move to the Premier League, reports in Italy suggested a switch to Bayern Munich for the Man Utd target was now a more feasible option.

However, Kim’s next move still remains something of a mystery. Now more details have come to light of Bayern’s hopes of luring Kim to Bavaria. And it seems their chances of a deal hinge on another exit happening first.

Kim Min-jae: Man Utd still in transfer mix

Indeed, Bayern’s prospects of a deal rest entirely on the exit of Lucas Hernandez first.

The France star has reportedly made clear his wish to Bayern bosses over a summer move to PSG.

Should the France defender leave, then and only then, will Bayern Munich look to sign Kim.

Furthermore, as a contigency plan to Kim, Bayern are also considering a move for Pau Torres as their Plan B. The Spain defender was a target for United in the days of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Explaining the potential transfer merry-go-round, German transfer expert Christian Falk has provided an update.

“Napoli’s Kim Min-jae is now at the top of the list in Munich and the reason for that is Lucas Hernandez has recently informed his bosses at Bayern that he would like to go to Paris Saint-Germain,” Falk wrote for CaughtOffside.

“Bayern are expecting an offer of €50m from PSG for Hernandez. Their bid for Kim Min-jae depends on this. That’s because the South Korean’s contract exit clause until 2025 is said to also be for the same amount.”

Falk believes that Bayern can be considered a strong threat to United’s chances of landing Kim.

However, he claims they are also looking at Torres if option A fails.

“The pursuit of Kim Min-jae will put Bayern into battle with Manchester United. The Red Devils should be warned – the player is Bayern’s top defensive target this summer.

“Villarreal’s Pau Torres, whom Juventus are also interested in, is an alternative back-up option for Bayern if they’re unable to land the Napoli star.”
