Marcel Sabitzer names two key expectations Man Utd can have of him and why he fits Ten Hag philosophy

New Man Utd midfielder Marcel Sabitzer

Marcel Sabitzer says he is at Manchester United “to win trophies” after conducting his first full interview with the club.

Sabitzer signed for Man Utd on loan from Bayern Munich on deadline day, in order to provide cover for the injured Christian Eriksen. The midfielder was the third loan recruit Man Utd made in the January transfer window.

With how quickly the move materialised, the Austria international hasn’t been able to speak too much about his new venture yet, other than that he is excited and feels he could contribute. But now, Sabitzer has held his first full interview with his new club’s media team to shed more light on what he will bring.

In the process, the 28-year-old has set out some of his ambitions for the next six months.

“I will give my all for the jersey,” Sabitzer said.

“I’m very happy to be here. I will give my best and we will see what happens, but I am here to win trophies.”

Man Utd are unlikely to win the Premier League this season, but are still in the FA Cup and Europa League, as well as the EFL Cup final.

Sabitzer, a former RB Leipzig star, has only scored twice from 54 Bayern Munich appearances. Therefore, he will have to raise his game again now he is at Man Utd.

But he is ready to embrace the challenge of playing at Old Trafford.

“Manchester United is a big club with fantastic fans,” he added. “Old Trafford is a big stadium, I’ve played there once. It was empty, but I felt it was very nice.

“It is a great feeling to have the badge on my chest and I’m looking forward.”

Marcel Sabitzer to express himself in two ways

Having never played for a Premier League club before, Sabitzer will have to show what he is about to his new fans.

Outlining his approach, Sabitzer suggested he can be expected to have an impact in both attacking and defensive phases.

“You can have a lot of expectations from me: good shots, duels,” he claimed.

“I’m excited to be on the pitch at Old Trafford.”

Shock as Manchester United act swiftly and sensibly in the transfer market

Soon to be at Erik ten Hag’s disposal, Sabitzer has also explained why he aligns with the manager’s mentality.

“Of course,” Sabitzer responded. “Keep going every single day, put it all out [there] in training sessions, that’s why I’m here.

“I like the way he plays, his teams play, he’s a good coach and I’m looking forward to meeting him and playing under him.”

Man Utd are next in action at Old Trafford against Crystal Palace on Saturday, February 4.
