Marcus Rashford set to make drastic Man Utd request as Rangnick fear comes to light

Marcus Rashford, Man Utd forward is struggling for form

Marcus Rashford is considering his future at Manchester United and could submit a request to leave this summer, according to a damning report.

The United forward has been a shadow of his former self this season and has failed to find his consistent best form. Indeed, the 24-year-old has just five goals and two assists to his name this term.

And to highlight his struggles, Rashford has made just 18 appearances in the Premier League this season. Just nine of those have been starts, while just two have come since the turn of the year.

To add to his misery, Rashford was expected to start Sunday’s Manchester derby in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani. However, Ralf Rangnick instead opted to play Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba as false nines – a tactic which evidentally backfired.

Indeed, their lame 4-1 defeat at the Etihad has both Roy Keane and Gary Neville seething.

Paul Scholes, meanwhile, turned his anger on the United board and questioned the appointment of Rangnick.

For Rashford, though, he now very much appears at something of a crossroads in his career.

As per 90min, they claim sources have indicated to them that Rashford is ‘becoming increasingly frustrated under the German’.

Furthermore, with Rangnick due to move into an advisory role at the end of the season, they claim Rashford fears he does not have a future at United.

Star seeking talks

They state Rashford is concerned about his lack of minutes. And while he is yet to make an issue of his situation, they claim he wants talks with those in charge to determine whether he has a future at Old Trafford.

Rashford will have a year left to run on his deal come the summer and a parting of ways could be on the cards should he not get the reassurances he needs.

United do have a one-year option on the deal and they could yet trigger that to maximise his valuation. PSG were recently linked with a move for the 46-times capped England star.

Peter Schmeichel highlights Marcus Rashford struggles

United legend Peter Schmeichel, meanwhile, insists he was not at all shocked to see Rashford axed from the starting XI on Sunday.

Working as a pundit for BBC Radio 5, the United Treble winner pointed to the striker’s poor form this season.

“No, I’m not surprised at all,” Schmeichel said when asked about Rashford’s axing. “He’s not done enough for me this season and is very much down on himself.

“He’s looking like someone who feels sorry for themselves. He needs to pick himself up off the floor.”

This follows earlier criticism from Jamie Carragher, who has also called for Rashford to be dropped.

“Marcus Rashford has been in this team since he was a kid. He burst onto the scene and he’s always threatened to go to that next level, when the top players get to, and he’s not there yet,” the Liverpool legend told CBS, via The Metro.

“We’ve got to the stage now where I don’t think he should be in Manchester United’s XI. His performances this season don’t warrant being in the team.

“More often than not he is in the team. Even when people are fit they find a position for him.

“He doesn’t suit playing on the right, not at all, so it needs to be on the left or in the centre.

“But we’re still waiting for Rashford to make that jump to become a United great. Or a player who can take them to big trophies, and he’s not there yet.

“At the age he’s at, United need something better than Marcus Rashford right now.”
