‘Seriously?’ – Man Utd warned against letting star man go as ‘no manager in their right mind’ would

Man Utd have been warned against letting Marcus Rashford leave the club as “no manager in their right mind” would.

Months of sub-par form led to Rashford being left out of the side for the Manchester derby at the weekend, despite being the only recognised forward available. Ralf Rangnick’s decision has subsequently cast his future into doubt.

It was swiftly suggested that the 24-year-old wanted out of the club as he could no longer see himself staying.

Soon after Real Madrid were linked with him as an alternative option should they miss out on Kylian Mbappe this summer.

And it’s been claimed Newcastle would be interested if he did become available.

But Paul Merson feels the Red Devils should not think about selling the England international and instead do what it takes to keep hold of him.

The pundit told Sky Sports: “It’s been two or three months and there is talk of Rashford being moved on. Seriously?

“No manager in their right mind would come to Old Trafford and offload Rashford.

“Even if I was going to take over the club as manager tomorrow morning, I wouldn’t be letting Rashford go.

“This is why Manchester United are in a shambles, how haven’t they got a manager in place now.

“Whoever does come in as manager isn’t going to get rid of Rashford. So the move will have to be done before then, that’s if it is going happen.”

A move away, potentially abroad, could rejuvenate Rashford’s career. He will struggle to get back to form while going in and out of United’s side.

Equally, the arrival of a new manager at Old Trafford in the summer may also be exactly what he needs.

Man Utd exit in doubt

Andreas Pereira in action for Flamengo, 2021

Meanwhile, United may have another summer exit to ponder after the reasons why a permanent Andreas Pereira transfer to Flamengo could soon collapse emerged.

Pereira had impressed in his early showings in Brazil despite making a decisive error in the 2021 Copa Libertadores final.

However, the latest from Sport Witness details how things have soured. He made another blunder in the recent victory over Vasco da Gama on Sunday which has heightened talk over whether it’s wise to turn his loan spell permanent.

As well as Pereira being booed off the pitch, Flamengo are reportedly under pressure from the Brazilian Central Bank regarding ‘unpaid taxes from the 1990s’.

That has forced them to call a halt to any potential transfer dealings for the time being.
