Mason Greenwood future: Forward must overcome two steps to secure Man Utd stay, though exit still possible

Mason Greenwood of Man Utd

Manchester United could ask Mason Greenwood to do two things before potentially remaining at Old Trafford, though an exit is still on the cards, according to a trusted source.

Greenwood has not represented Man Utd since January 2022 after being arrested. Charges against him were dropped last month after key witnesses withdrew their involvement.

The attacker has since been waiting to find out whether he will play for Man Utd again. Senior club officials are currently deciding what to do with the player.

As per The Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath, Erik ten Hag’s side have received several loan enquiries for Greenwood. His most likely destination – should he leave Old Trafford – appears to be Turkey. Fenerbahce are one of the clubs willing to sign Greenwood, despite the backlash it would bring.

While an exit could take place, there is also the possibility of the Englishman staying put. And The Athletic provide a big update on Man Utd’s plans in this regard.

Man Utd ask Mason Greenwood to do two things

They state that Greenwood would have to overcome two steps before becoming a full-time member of the Man Utd senior squad again. The first is that he could take part in a TV interview.

Secondly, Greenwood would also undergo therapy as part of a phased return to first-team football.

However, Man Utd cutting ties with the player is not ruled out. After all, The Times have revealed that the Man Utd women’s team are opposed to Greenwood returning to action. It is unclear whether the TV interview and therapy would be enough to convince them on him coming back into the fold.

Greenwood looked set to become a big part of Man Utd’s future before his arrest. He managed 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 games for the club. But his career is now at a major crossroads.

Meanwhile, Friday’s Transfer Gossip includes Man Utd being tipped to move for a Bundesliga midfielder.
