La Liga side Getafe have announced the addition of Mason Greenwood on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

It was announced in August that Greenwood would be leaving Manchester United, although the terms of his exit and destination remained unclear. Now, Getafe have sealed his arrival on a season-long loan.

Greenwood will resume his career in La Liga after last playing for Manchester United in January 2022, before he was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and other offences.

In February 2023, the charges against him were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service, but he remained away from the Manchester United setup while their internal investigation concluded.

It was eventually decided it would be best for Greenwood to continue his career elsewhere, which has now led to the chance for him to join Getafe.

Getafe are currently 12th in La Liga after winning one, drawing one and losing one of their opening matches so far.

They will be just the second club Greenwood has represented in his career after he previously made 129 appearances and scored 35 goals for Manchester United.

His parent club’s statement confirmed: “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.

“The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
