Medical booked, with Man Utd to complete fourth major signing after manager confirms move

Man Utd target Altay Bayindir

Manchester United are expected to complete their fourth major signing of the summer inside the next 48 hours, per multiple reports.

The Red Devils remain on the hunt for a back-up to Andre Onana as well as a new holding midfielder. An addition at centre-half likely hinges on first selling Harry Maguire, while several notable developments at left-back could now see one exit aborted.

In any case, today’s update regards the deputy for Onana, with Turkey international Altay Bayindir the man United have settled on.

Odysseas Vlachodimos of Benfica was initially installed as Erik ten Hag’s top target, according to Fabrizio Romano.

However, the Daily Express revealed Benfica president, Rui Costa, priced United out of a move when demanding ‘at least £8.5m’ for the Greek.

As such, United quickly switched their focus to Bayindir and the Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed pre-medical checks had already taken place.

Reports in Turkey (as cited by the Manchester Evening News) then claimed United and Fenerbahce had struck an agreement on the transfer fee. Per the Express, United will pay in the region of £6m (add-ons included).

Now, fresh updates from Turkey have accelerated the move even further.

Bayindir spotted at airport; Man Utd medical booked

Firstly, Sports Digitale report Bayindir has been spotted at the Atatürk General Aviation Terminal  ahead of flying to England at some stage on Friday.

Once arriving, the 25-year-old will undergo a full medical and if given the all clear, will then sign his Man Utd contract.

To remove any shred of doubt, recent comments from Bayindir’s manager at Fenerbahce as well as a teammate have confirmed the move is happening.

In the aftermath of Fenerbahce’s 5-1 victory over Twente in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night, manager Ismail Kartal said: “I would like to thank Altay for his services. He started a new adventure, and I wish him all the best.”

Fenerbahce’s Ferdi Kadıoglu is also quoted as saying: “Altay Bayındır is a very good goalkeeper. I wish him good luck. He is also a very good character. I hope he will be very successful there.”

Once Bayindir arrives, Dean Henderson will be given the greenlight to leave.

Crystal Palace are currently leading Nottingham Forest in the race for the England international. A loan with an option or obligation to buy is anticipated.
