Man Utd ‘more attentive’ to ‘priority’ Ten Hag target, with board members preparing move on one condition

Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech representing Chelsea

Manchester United are “ready to move” for Chelsea attacking midfielder, Hakim Ziyech, in order to reunite him with Erik ten Hag, it has been claimed.

It is going to be a busy couple of weeks at Manchester United. Losses in their opening two Premier League fixtures have heightened their focus on potential transfers. Modifying their attack is something they will be working on.

Doubts linger about the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. Furthermore, there are concerns about a lack of depth centrally and out wide. It led transfer expert Fabrizio Romano to recently claim two attacking signings could be on their way to Old Trafford in the coming week.

Could one of them be Hakim Ziyech? The Chelsea star has been linked with a move to Manchester United since the appointment of Ten Hag, who coached him at Ajax.

So far, there has been some scepticism as to whether the deal can be done. It has seemed like not all at Man Utd are in favour of buying Ziyech, who has struggled for consistency at Chelsea.

But Ten Hag knows how to get the best out of him, which is why the links are continuing. According to the latest from France Football journalist Nabil Djellit, Ziyech “remains a priority” for the United boss.

Crucially, board members are becoming “more attentive” to his idea of signing the Morocco international. Any bid, though, would rely on Chelsea not being “too greedy” in terms of their transfer demands.

Ziyech has also been linked with a move to Serie A this summer, with AC Milan showing an interest.

Ten  Hag previously gave Ziyech 100 appearances at Ajax, from which the Dutch-born ace scored 35 goals and provided 53 assists. Since playing for Chelsea, though – under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel – he has only contributed 14 goals and 10 assists from 83 games.

Ziyech could step up again with Ten Hag

So is the problem his adaptation to the Premier League, or is Chelsea just the wrong fit? That’s the question United need to weigh up if they are to lure Ziyech to Old Trafford.

He would not be the first player to move from Chelsea to Manchester United in recent years. Juan Mata made the move in 2014 and Nemanja Matic did in 2017.

In both cases, the players spent longer in Manchester than in west London. But their impacts were arguably more memorable in a blue shirt.

Perhaps Ziyech could follow the opposite trend. Undoubtedly a talented player, he needs a new platform to deliver on a regular basis. Although his time with Chelsea hasn’t been a total disaster, maybe he could reach the next level with Ten Hag again.

Manchester United interested in Chelsea duo N’golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech

Manchester United have an interest in signing N’golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea this summer

He would have to sacrifice Champions League football for it to happen. But it may be a sacrifice worth taking for the 29-year-old if it allows him to play more regularly and get back to his Ajax levels.

And United would need someone like that, given their current predicament. Hence, it is understandable why they may be opening up to Ten Hag’s idea.
