Man Utd embarrassed as MUTV pundit tears apart Adrien Rabiot record, prompting ‘bad feeling’ about transfer

Adrien Rabiot, Juventus, March 2022.

Manchester United have been torn apart for their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot by former player Lou Macari – while live on air on their official TV channel.

Rabiot is currently being pursued by Manchester United amid their need to strengthen in midfield. There have been negotiations with his current club Juventus, as well as his mother and agent, Veronique.

Interest in the France international has drawn a mixed reaction from Manchester United fans. On one hand, he is an experienced player who has represented prestigious clubs and a powerful national team.

On the other hand, he has not progressed much during three seasons at Juventus. Concerns over his attitude and the influence of his controversial mother on his career have also arisen.

Now, Man Utd have been left red-faced after their former player, Macari, admitted live on MUTV – their own channel – that he has not heard of Rabiot and does not feel he has any attributes to improve Erik ten Hag’s side.

“What’s his name? I’ve never heard of him because I don’t think I should have heard of him,” said Macari.

“You and I have gone through his record before we came on this show. He played 32 games last season, how many goals did he get?

“He played in the equivalent of their FA Cup in that country. How many goals did he get?”

The answer to both questions was zero, as was the case for his Champions League involvement. When the host raised the idea that Rabiot may be a different type of player with other qualities, Macari replied: “I can’t see them. Qualities you can see in black and white; you can see people scoring goals, or in this case, not scoring goals.

“Football clubs spend millions and millions of pounds to put scouts out there all round Europe to keep their eye on all the players.

“So if you were going to be a Manchester United scout and asked about somebody at some club, he’d give you a real breakdown on them. They spend millions. No-one has made a move for this fella. Why?”

Links with Ligue 1 outfit, Monaco, were then brought up by the presenter before Macari laughed them off.

“Monaco is good for dumping your money, dumping your money in the bank in Monaco. Going there on holiday is lovely,” he quipped.

Is Adrien Rabiot really the answer to Manchester United’s midfield woes?

With reports emerging that a fee has been agreed with Juventus for the Frenchman, is Adrien Rabiot really the answer to Manchester United’s midfield issues?

“But what has the football team ever done? So for them to be interested in him means nothing. Why aren’t the rest of the clubs in this country, that have done well in the transfer market, why aren’t they interested in him? Why aren’t Man City or Liverpool?

“You always need a good player. And if this fella’s a good player, your Liverpools, your Man Citys, even Tottenham now, their owner’s spending loads of money, Arsenal are spending money to get themselves back into contention.

“No, I just get a bad feeling about the guy.”

Still, it looks like things are progressing for Rabiot to become a Man Utd player. If he does, he will have a few people to prove wrong.
