Man Utd star ‘would love’ to reunite with former boss as great relationship revealed

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic ‘would love’ to reunite with former boss Jose Mourinho at Roma, according to a report.

Last week, the Serbia international revealed his desire to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. That’s despite his contract running until 2023. The Red Devils will either terminate his deal or allow him to leave for a small fee.

Reports soon came in suggesting he could link up with Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid. The manager wants more protection for his defence and Matic is a short-term solution.

However, competition is coming from Rome. Mourinho is pushing those above him to capture 33-year-old Matic once the summer transfer window opens.

The pair go back a long way. They worked together at Chelsea before Mourinho’s second spell in west London came to an end in December 2015.

Matic reunited with the Portuguese in July 2017 when Manchester United paid Chelsea £40million for his services. United finished second in the Premier League in 2017-18, before Mourinho was sacked midway into the next campaign.

Nemanja Matic in contact with potential next club

According to Italian source Tuttomercatoweb, Roma are already in contact with Matic and his entourage.

Fellow Italian outlet Calciomercato add to the rumours. They claim Matic has a very good relationship with Mourinho and will aim to play under him next term.

The enforcer ‘would love’ to link up with Mourinho for a third time, as it would give him the opportunity to play more regularly.

And with Roma planning to bolster their midfield ranks this summer, a transfer to Serie A surely makes sense for Matic.

Calciomercato state a deal will cost ‘very close to zero’. This is because United want to offload Matic and will not hold out for a major sum.

The player has made 185 appearances for the Red Devils so far, scoring four goals. While Matic won several trophies at Chelsea, he is yet to pick up any silverware in Manchester.

Matic’s last outing came in the damning 4-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool on Tuesday. He will be hoping to feature when United come up against Arsenal at the weekend.
