Man Utd goalkeeper Dean Henderson is pushing for an exit with Newcastle one of six chasing a deal, and a report has revealed how Erik ten Hag could influence his future.

The goalkeeper, 25, finished last season with hopes high of displacing David de Gea for good. However, after his recovery from contracting Covid-19 over the summer took longer than expected, De Gea was entrusted with the gloves to start the campaign.

The Spaniard quickly set about producing some of the best form of his career over subsequent months. That ensured Henderson remained rooted to the bench upon returning to full fitness.

Henderson’s lack of minutes has also seen him drop way down the pecking order with England. In a World Cup year, a dearth of match action is what every international footballer fears.

As such, talk over a potential Dean Henderson exit has never been far away. Indeed, Newcastle were linked with a January swoop, though a deal failed to materialise.

However, Man Utd-focussed outlet Stretty News now report Henderson has had enough of being a bit-part player at Old Trafford.

They state the stopper is growing ‘increasingly frustrated’ with his bench role and ‘would welcome’ a summer departure.

Adding further fuel to the fire is their claim Henderson is now ‘actively’ seeking a way out.

The publication claim sources close to Manchester United have indicated talks over Henderson’s future have already taken place behind the scenes. What resulted was interest emerging from ‘as many as six Premier League clubs’ including Newcastle.

However, despite his discontent, Henderson may soon be handed an unlikely lifeline in Manchester.

The article claims the man tipped to become United’s next manager attempted to sign Henderson last summer.

Erik ten Hag could soon take the reins at Old Trafford if widespread reports are to be believed. The Dutchman currently manages Ajax who it’s claimed attempted to sign Henderson last year.

Ajax’s interested stemmed from being without who would’ve been their No1 between the sticks due to a drugs ban – Andre Onana.

Henderson would ultimately remain at Old Trafford, though if the report is accurate, Ten Hag remains a fan of Henderson’s work.

Whether that would be enough to see him given a chance to displace De Gea, however, remains in question.
