Newcastle’s new-found wealth is now seeing them linked with one of European football’s best attacking talents and a player that Cristiano Ronaldo wants Manchester United to sign.
Following their £305million takeover by the Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) last week, the St James’ Park outfit are already being linked with a number of top stars. But now latest reports suggest that they are chasing outstanding Juventus forward Federico Chiesa.
The report adds that a deal of around €120million (£102m) would be needed to sign Chiesa. However, that is not a figure that is likely to stop PIF in their tracks.
Juventus already fear losing Chiesa, and with Antonio Conte also linked to the managerial post at Newcastle, the Italian duo could join forces in the north east.
The 23-year-old winger scored 15 goals and added 11 assists last season before shining as Italy won Euro 2020.
So far this season he has two goals in seven games. But his overall form over the past 18 months and also seen other big clubs circling.
Calcio recently claimed that Manchester United are looking at Chiesa. Indeed, they have been given the nod to do so by his former Turin colleague Ronaldo.
The Portugal star is a big fan of Chiesa’s talents and wants him to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
Newcastle want Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale is the latest player to be linked with a move to St. James' Park, with more updates on Philippe Coutinho and Anthony Martial.
Liverpool have also shown a major interest and reportedly failed with a previous £86m offer for the attacker.
Adding Chiesa to their squad would clearly be a statement signing for Newcastle. However, it remains to be seen in the player would be tempted by such a move.
Newcastle urged to sign duo
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s new owners should push to sign ex-Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey and former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Unsurprisingly the Magpies have been linked with dozens of players ever since they were taken over last week.
Under new Saudi ownership, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Newcastle are looking to make a change imminently to replace Steve Bruce. They also have their sights on a new sporting director, while four Man Utd players are said to be on their radar.
Now though former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor thinks Newcastle should get in some proven Premier League performers.
Both Ramsey, 30, and Coutinho, 29, are struggling at their respective clubs.
Transfers for both players were mooted in the summer. And it’s likely the pair will be available again in the January window.
“I’d go and get [Aaron] Ramsey or someone like that,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “He’s still a good player and it isn’t working for him at Juventus at the moment.
“I’d target those kind of players where you don’t have to pay them silly money. I’d take [Phillipe] Coutinho too. We were talking about the Manchester City takeover and they had Robinho come in.
“Coutinho’s not really playing his football properly at Barcelona. And Barcelona will take anything – they still owe Liverpool for him, don’t they?
“Barcelona could say: ‘You cancel that Liverpool debt, and you can have him!’”
