Man Utd confirm Paul Pogba exit, with all eyes on Juventus as tempting offer tabled

Paul Pogba, Man Utd v Leicester April 2022

Manchester United have confirmed that Paul Pogba is leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer, with Juventus now eyeing a swoop.

The France international, who left United for Juve as a 19-year-old in 2012, returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for £89million. He arrived back in Manchester with great promise following a stunning spell in Serie A.

But despite some memorable moments, Pogba has never found or maintained his top form for United.

As a result, both he and the club have decided not to renew his deal and Man Utd announced his departure on Wednesday.

A club statement read: “Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United.

“We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey.”

Pogba made 226 appearances in his second spell at Old Trafford, but injury problems have proved a problem in recent seasons.

In fact, he only made 27 outings this term due to hamstring and calf issues.

Elsewhere, the midfielder claimed that this season was “dead” for United. He added that the last five years “have not satisfied me – really not at all”.

Pogba subsequently claimed that he enjoyed playing for France much more, where he has a defined role in Didier Deschamps’ team.

At club level, though, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have all failed to get the best out of the Frenchman.

As a result, the focus turns to where the player will turn to next.

Juventus are the supposed frontrunners to sign the 91-cap France international.

Goal reports that the Turin club have offered Pogba a three-year deal worth €7.5million (£6.3million).

However, Pogba has yet to finally decide on his future as he considers his options.

Paris Saint-Germain have had links with a move for Pogba, but their interest remains unclear.

Further reports have claimed that Juve are looking to pair up Pogba with a move for Angel di Maria. The Argentina international, like Pogba, sees his PSG contract expire this summer.

United, meanwhile, now have a gap to fill in their midfield. Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard are also leaving Old Trafford this summer.
