Pogba told why Man Utd return ‘was not wise’ as destination revealed that would make him ‘very happy’

Paul Pogba of Manchester United

Paul Pogba made a mistake by re-joining Manchester United, claims one of his former teammates who wants to see him rectify the decision in the summer.

A few months remain until the end of Pogba’s contract as a Manchester United player. His second spell with the club, which began in 2016, has not been all it was expected to be. Although he has shown his ability on several occasions and won some trophies, United have never quite got the same version of the player that Juventus did before them.

Likewise, the 2018 World Cup winner has often looked a better player when representing France. But the risk of losing him for free for a second time in his career has made United think long and hard about his club future.

Pogba has been free to talk with foreign clubs since the turn of the year. For now, he remains focused on his duties with Man Utd. He could be approaching the end of his time there, though.

United would have to invest heavily in his wages to keep him, which may not be sustainable. If he is to leave, the two main options appear to be to head to his native France with Paris Saint-Germain, or re-trace his steps by signing up for a second spell with Juventus.

In that regard, it has recently been claimed that negotiations are advancing at a decent pace. It would be a move that would please his former colleague Claudio Marchisio, who has been analysing Pogba’s situation.

Marchisio, who left Juventus in 2018 and retired a year later, shared a pitch with Pogba on 131 occasions. Only five players have been the Frenchman’s teammate in more games.

Their understanding has extended beyond the pitch, too. Marchisio has now revealed he has spoken with Pogba on a regular basis about why returning to Man Utd was never the right move for his progress.

As such, he wants the 28-year-old to re-join Juventus, even if he admits PSG would be a positive option too.

Marchisio told beIN Sports (via Sport Witness): “I often talk about it with Paul. I said it in another interview: his return to England was not wise for his progress.

“He went from the English league with specific characteristics to Italy, to Juventus, where he had a different progression.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think his return was positive for him, even though he had some important wins in the Europa League with Manchester United and the World Cup with France.

PSG or Juventus good options for Pogba

“I think he and his family would be very happy if he joined Paris Saint-Germain. Coming home to a big club, trying to win the Champions League like Juventus did.

“But me, on the other hand, I would be very happy to see him again in Turin, because he left a very good memory.”

Pogba has played in 227 matches for Man Utd, in comparison to 178 for Juventus. For the English side, he has contributed 39 goals and 51 assists. For the Italians, he recorded 34 and 40 respectively.

The Premier League title has evaded Pogba since his return to Old Trafford. In contrast, he won Serie A in each of his four seasons with Juventus.

The Old Lady relinquished their title to Inter last season and are aiming to rebuild themselves. Taking Pogba back, if they can get the old version of him, would be beneficial to their hopes.

Alternatively, PSG could get him to play for a French club for the first time in his career. They haven’t been satisfied with their summer signing of Georginio Wijnaldum and could take Pogba as an upgrade.

All will become clearer by the summer.
