‘Petulant’ Jadon Sancho torn apart as former England star claims he’s ‘done’ at Man Utd; winger ‘disrespectful’ to Ten Hag

Former Manchester United and England goalkeeper Ben Foster has blasted Jadon Sancho for his response to manager Erik ten Hag, labelling the attacker ‘petulant’ and ‘reactional’.

Sancho did not make the squad for Man Utd’s 3-1 away defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, leading to rumours about a potential injury. However, after the match Ten Hag explained that he did not select Sancho due to his sub-par performances in training.

Instead, Ten Hag put the likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Facundo Pellistri and Alejandro Garnacho as forward options on his bench.

Sancho soon responded to Ten Hag’s comments. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), the winger claimed suggestions that he had not trained well were ‘completely untrue’.

Sancho hinted that there were other reasons for the manager leaving him out of the squad, though he did not go into them. He added that he has ‘been a scapegoat for a long time’ and this ‘isn’t fair’.

According to an update from The Telegraph, Ten Hag has been left ‘stunned’ by Sancho’s very public complaint. Ten Hag is particularly frustrated with the use of the word ‘scapegoat’, as he feels he has given the Englishman plenty of opportunities to get his career back on track.

There are growing concerns that Sancho may have played his last game for Man Utd, with a January transfer now possible.

Of course, Sancho could turn the situation around by apologising to Ten Hag and pushing hard to make himself a key player.

Jadon Sancho statement ‘absolutely crazy’

But Foster does not think Sancho should be allowed that opportunity. During an appearance on The United Stand, the 40-year-old explained how Sir Alex Ferguson would have axed Sancho straight away if he was still in charge.

“It is absolutely crazy. If Alex Ferguson is manager and Jadon Sancho did this, he would never see the light of day for Manchester United,” Foster claimed.

“He would never play for this club, he wouldn’t be allowed near the training ground, you are done. It is petulant, emotive, reactional and disrespectful.

“It just becomes a massive storm and now everyone wants to know what has happened – has Ten Hag lost the dressing room? What were the training sessions really like?

“Sancho says it is nothing to do with training, fantastic, you should be applying yourself and putting the work in.

“That is the minimum. I don’t blame Ten Hag one little bit, as long as that is the truth.”

Player has created a ‘massive problem’ for himself

Foster continued: “This is a massive problem for Jadon Sancho moving forward.

“Other clubs see it and they wouldn’t want someone who behaves like this either.”

If Sancho refuses to back down, then it is highly likely Man Utd will try to move him on in January. They will not want Sancho remaining in the squad and sulking, ruining the mood in the dressing room.

Sancho has previously been linked with shock moves to Tottenham or Chelsea. However, as Foster states, those teams may be put off signing him if his attitude is really as bad as it is being made out to be.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for Sancho to go back to Germany by re-joining Borussia Dortmund. The 23-year-old shone for Dortmund and managed 50 goals in 137 games, which saw him earn his big-money switch to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Mason Greenwood has issued his first message as a Getafe player, while he is also refusing to give up on his Man Utd dream, according to reports.
