Pochettino compensation clause has PSG waiting for Man Utd decision after three more options surface

Paris Saint-Germain may be hoping that Manchester United make a move for Mauricio Pochettino due to a compensation clause, a report has revealed.
Pochettino is one of four front-runners for the Man Utd job in the summer. Ralf Rangnick is currently holding it on an interim basis. He will vacate the role at the end of the season for a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United have interviewed Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who is one of the favourites for the job along with Pochettino. Also in background contention are Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui and Spain’s Luis Enrique.
Pochettino is the only one with Premier League experience, having previously led Southampton and Tottenham. However, he has faced difficulties in the PSG hotseat.
Last season, they failed to retain their French title, losing out to Lille. This season, they should claim it back, but elimination from the Champions League in the Round of 16 could overshadow things.
As such, there is already pressure on Pochettino, whose contract in Paris runs until 2023. His employers could sack him before then.
To do so, though, the Daily Telegraph have revealed that it would cost them between £15m and £20m. In contrast, if United get him out of his contract – even though there is no release clause – PSG would be relieved of that expense.
Pochettino is apparently open to the idea of managing Man Utd. The same goes for Ten Hag, who will likely leave Ajax in the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of being sacked
After crashing out of the Champions League, Mauricio Pochettino is under massive pressure at PSG.
Appointing Enrique would be more difficult due to his commitments ahead of the World Cup in December. The Telegraph speculate the only way it could work would be by agreeing a job share or extending Rangnick’s interim spell.
Enrique’s Spain predecessor Lopetegui is also in line for an interview after reviving his credentials while in charge of Sevilla.
Man Utd had three more Pochettino alternatives before whittling down shortlist
United are using the current international break as an ideal window of opportunity to speak to their preferred candidates.
But the four in contention are not the only ones they have been thinking about. Indeed, ESPN reveal they have also looked into three other candidates.
One was Carlo Ancelotti, formerly of Chelsea and Everton and currently of Real Madrid. Another Italian, Roberto Mancini, was also an idea. And a third alternative was Bayern Munich’s Julian Nagelsmann.
In each case, though, the options were discarded due to them being “unsuitable or unattainable”.
Therefore, the Daily Express have claimed that Ten Hag is in pole position. However, Pochettino will still be under consideration.
