Predicted Manchester United team to face Tottenham: Rangnick boosted as Ronaldo set for injury return

Following a tough run, the predicted Manchester United team could see Ralf Rangnick boosted by the return of star talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.

United find themselves searching for form following recent poor form. Indeed, they have failed to win in each of their last three matches across all competitions.

During those games, they did manage to claw a late goal back in the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid. However, they drew 0-0 against Watford the following game and then suffered a 4-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City in the derby.

United were without star man Ronaldo for the City clash but could be blessed by his return this week – something Rangnick mentioned in his pre-match press conference.

“He resumed for training yesterday,” said Rangnick.

“He trained the whole training session and I expect him to train today as well. Trained well, like the rest of the group. I would’ve thought he was available tomorrow.”

Ronaldo’s return will be a big boost as United look to bounce back from another heavy defeat against top tier opposition.

Last time out – Manchester City 4-1 Manchester United

Regular stopper David De Gea started in goal. The centre-back partnership consisted of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles played as the full-backs.

The two holding-midfielders were Fred and Scott McTominay.

Anthony Elanga and goalscorer Jadon Sancho played in behind the strikers, with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes deputising in a surprise false nine pairing.

De Gea is likely to play in net. The centre-back partnership could see Harry Maguire partner Raphael Varane, who is available, contrary to last week.

Wan-Bissaka and Telles could keep their spots as the full-backs.

With McTominay unavailable, Pogba could drop deeper into midfield, alongside Fred.

The attacking-midfield positions could see Elanga retain his spot, as could Sancho. Fernandes could drop back into the no.10 role this week with United reverting to one up top.

Ronaldo’s availability means he could start up front; he scored against Tottenham in the reverse fixture.

Predicted Manchester United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Telles; Pogba, Fred; Elanga, Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo
