PSG have made an offer to Paul Pogba that has raised eyebrows, while a report has revealed how the Man Utd dressing room view the Frenchman in the latter stages of his Old Trafford career.
Pogba, 28, looks destined to be leaving Manchester United for the second time this summer. Pogba’s return to Old Trafford in 2016 was greeted with great optimism – not least because he cost a club-record £89.3m.
However, despite showing flashes of his mercurial best, no Man Utd manager has been able to prise the best out of him on a consistent basis.
Pogba’s explosive comments in March indicated he will not look back fondly on his second stint in Manchester.
As such, it became increasingly apparent he would not remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer – if indeed United wanted him to.
Nevertheless, elite sides the likes of PSG, Real Madrid and Juventus have all been linked with swooping for Paul Pogba when he becomes a free agent.
And according to the Manchester Evening News, PSG have now tabled an offer to the player.
But strangely enough, the report claims PSG’s offer is worth less than United’s own last-ditch offer to retain Pogba.
Paul Pogba likely to leave Man Utd
Paul Pogba is looking increasingly likely to leave Manchester United this summer.
Nevertheless, Pogba is deemed ‘open’ to returning to his homeland with PSG, though his preference remains Juventus.
It would appear unlikely the Serie A side would be able to match PSG financially. As such, Pogba may have to accept reduced terms wherever he goes next compared to his current deal at Manchester United.
Real Madrid are deemed no longer a serious contender to land the midfielder. Their interest was mainly driven by Pogba’s fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane. However, he was replaced as Real Madrid manager by Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.
Pogba still a respected and popular figure
Despite Pogba flattering to deceive for much of his United career, the report notes he is still respected and warmly received around Carrington.
It’s stated his professionalism in recent times has earned the respect of his teammates despite it being obvious he would leave.
Furthermore, he is deemed still to be a ‘popular figure’ at the club’s training complex.
Nevertheless, ‘dressing room sources’ have indicated Pogba is ‘effectively gone’ already from United.
To replace him, the article concludes ‘at least’ one new midfielder will be signed this summer.
Superstars the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice have been linked, though both would could cost nine-figure sums.
On the more budget-friendly end, Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer continue to attract attention across the media.
