Man Utd ramp up interest in Ligue 1 defender whose arrival could see Ten Hag axe one of two players this summer

Manchester United have reportedly ramped up their interest in Monaco right-back Vanderson, as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his defence this summer.

The 21-year-old has caught the attention of several top European clubs after joining the Ligue 1 side in January last year.

So far, Vanderson has made 56 appearances for the French outfit, contributing three goals and seven assists overall.

Now, with Monaco set to miss out on Champions League football next season, he could look for a move elsewhere ahead of next season.

As noted by TEAMtalk, Man Utd could look to sell Aaron Wan Bissaka this summer. The right-back is currently being targeted by his former club Crystal Palace, as well as Leeds United.

As a result, Ten Hag could look to bring in another right-back this summer to provide competition for Diogo Dalot and Vanderson could be an excellent option.

According to RMC SportMan Utd are ‘ready’ to rival ‘several Premier League clubs’ for the Brazilian. Although, with his contract valid until 2027, the Red Devils may have to pay a sizeable fee for his services.

Ten Hag to axe Wan-Bissaka if Man Utd sign Vanderson

As mentioned, the arrival of Vanderson could spell the end of Wan Bissaka’s Man Utd career. Also, Dalot could potentially lose his starting sport next term.

The pair have been fighting it out to be Erik ten Hag’s first-choice right-back this season. Despite the exit rumours, Wan-Bissaka has actually got the better of Dalot in recent months, starting 10 of Man Utd’s 15 Premier League games since the World Cup.

Nevertheless, it seems unlikely the defensive duo would remain at Old Trafford if Vanderson is signed this summer. With that in mind, Ten Hag could have a difficult decision on his hands.

Right-back isn’t the only position Man Utd are looking to shake-up, though.

Indeed, Ten Hag’s transfer priority is thought to be to bring in a new centre-forward.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is on of the manager’s main targets. But now, it seems more likely he will head to Bayern Munich.

Now, Man Utd’s focus could turn to Tottenham Hotspur record goal scorer Harry Kane who Ten Hag is reportedly ‘obsessed about.’

At the moment, though, Man Utd’s focus will be on their five remaining Premier League games, as well as their upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City.
