Rashford injury: Man Utd confirm return timeframe with Ten Hag losing most potent weapon at critical time

Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford

Man Utd have revealed the results of further assessment of a groin injury picked up by Marcus Rashford, with Erik ten Hag learning how long he’ll be without his top scorer.

Rashford, 25, has been simply sensational since the World Cup break. The vast bulk of his 28 goals across all competitions have come since the tournament in Qatar, with Rashford playing a huge role in Man Utd competing for trophies on three fronts.

The League Cup has already been banked, though United retain genuine hope of adding the FA Cup and Europa League to their haul.

However, hearts were in mouths on Saturday when Rashford pulled up lame in the latter stages of their 2-0 victory over Everton.

Rashford immediately signalled to the bench after overstretching when attempting to control a high ball over the top. The England international did not attempt to run the issue off or even wait to receive treatment before realising his race was run.

With Europa League quarter-final ties against Sevilla coming up (April 13 and 20), as well as an FA Cup semi-final versus Brighton (April 23), United were praying for good news upon further assessment of the issue.

However, a club statement revealed on Wednesday morning that Rashford “will be unavailable for a few games”.

Rashford is “expected” to return for the “final weeks” of the campaign, though United look likely to be without their star man for the upcoming trio of cup clashes.

The statement read: “Subsequent assessment of the injury suggested that Marcus will be unavailable for a few games, but is expected to be back for the season run-in.”

It continued: “But there will also be relief about the prospect of his return for important games in the final weeks of the season.”

Ten Hag’s options at centre-forward in Rashford’s absence are Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial.

Rashford’s spell on the treatment table could also give Jadon Sancho another chance to prove his worth on the left wing.
