Man Utd receive double blow in pursuit of €150m goal machine, as Ten Hag switches attention to alternatives

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen of Napoli

Bayern Munich have a better chance of signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen than Man Utd this summer, according to reports.

Also, Napoli will offer the goal machine a new contract at the end of the season. If accepted, this would completely scupper Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Osimhen was, until now, considered one of Man Utd’s primary striker targets. However, if these reports are to be believed, they could now put all their efforts into signing Tottenham centre-forward, Harry Kane.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Bayern are currently the big favourites to sign the Nigeria international this summer.

This is reportedly because they are ‘more likely to succeed’ in Europe than the Red Devils, as well as Chelsea and PSG – who have also been chasing Osimhen.

Indeed, Man Utd crashed out of the Europa League to struggling Spanish side Sevilla this term. As for Chelsea, they are currently in 11th place in the Premier League table and won’t be competing in Europe at all.

However, even though Osimhen seems to be leaning towards joining Bayern, staying at Napoli isn’t out of the question either. Dello Sport add that the Italian giants ‘strongly’ want to extend his current deal, which expires in 2025.

If he doesn’t sign a new contract, Napoli will demand a fee of €150 (approx. £132.8m) for his services.

Ten Hag wants a big-name striker this summer

It’s no secret that Ten Hag wants to bolster his front line this summer. Marcus Rashford has been in unbelievable form – scoring 28 goals across all competitions so far.

However, if Man Utd want to become serial title contenders again, Rashford could certainly do with some attacking support.

Osimhen would have been an ideal candidate. In 25 Serie A appearances this term, the Napoli star has scored 21 goals, along with making five assists. This gives him a near-supernatural average of 1.04 goal contributions per game.

Nevertheless, with the Nigerian more likely to join Bayern or stay at Napoli, Ten Hag must now switch his attention to alternative options.

As mentioned, one of the Red Devil’s other key targets is Tottenham record goal scorer, Kane.

Ten Hag is thought to be ‘obsessed’ with the England international and would love to see him in a Man Utd shirt. But, due to Daniel Levy’s reputation for tricky transfer tactics, the Dutch manager may not get his wish.

As a result – the likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Goncalo Ramos and two others are on Ten Hag’s list of second-choice targets.

For now, though, Man Utd’s focus will be on their five remaining Premier League games, as well as their upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City.
