Man Utd ‘agree terms’ with Bundesliga midfielder as star eagerly awaits final details

Marcel Sabitzer, Bayern Munich, November 2022

Manchester United have taken the lead over Chelsea in the pursuit of Marcel Sabitzer, as the midfielder has reportedly agreed personal terms.

January has been slow for the Red Devils in terms of signings. Only Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst have come through the door – neither are particularly big signings.

If Erik ten Hag’s comments are anything to go by, their dealings could be done there.

Indeed, the manager referred to deals being done on transfer deadline day as “difficult”.

Despite that, an injury to Christian Eriksen seems to have had a say on his  attempts to make one.

It seems an ankle injury will force the Danish midfielder to spend a few months on the sideline. With that, United are left without their second-most utilised outfield option.

While Scott McTominay and Fred are always ready for action, there’s a reason Ten Hag has replaced them.

As such, he has gone on the hunt for a midfielder to fill the gap Eriksen will leave.

Sabitzer ‘agrees terms’ with United

And he came across Bayern Munich midfielder Sabitzer. A deal for the midfielder seems a perfect one for United for a few reasons.

Firstly, he reportedly wants to leave Bayern, and they’re not likely to stand in his way.

Secondly, United could get him in on loan, which is a clear positive. Indeed, they won’t have to splash a sum of money on a player who is initially wanted as short-term cover.

If he was to keep his place in the side beyond that point, or just provide good cover, that would be an added bonus.

The one snag in the pursuit is the lurking presence of Chelsea. As has been the case for a few clubs during this window, the Blues have been sniffing around United’s target.

However, it seems the Red Devils have drawn first blood, after an important update.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has reported that Sabitzer has ‘agreed personal terms’ with them. It seems he is eager, as he ‘immediately accepted’ due to his desire to work with Ten Hag.

The next step is for United and Bayern to come to an agreement over the loan. The midfielder is already travelling to Manchester, Romano says, to await a breakthrough in talks.

Sky Sports have also offered an update on the potential move, stating there is ‘optimism’ from all parties that an agreement will be reached before the deadline.
