Man Utd duo tipped for brutal axe as Old Trafford maverick leaves Ten Hag with more questions than answers

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho to displace Antony and Jadon Sancho on the right-hand side of Erik ten Hag’s attack this coming season.

The former Villa frontman believes the young Red Devils attacker can break into Ten Hag’s first team this season and make the right-wing position his own, ‘scoring lots of goals’ in the process.

Garnacho is back in pre-season training at United after being granted extended leave due to his international commitments last month.

The winger, who landed a new five-year deal back in April, enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season under Ten Hag.

The 19-year-old chalked up five goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions – starting in just 11 of those outings.

He also broke into the Argentina senior squad for friendlies against Australia and Indonesia in June.

And while Garnacho has primarily featured on the left wing for United, Agbonlahor has backed him to swap sides and challenge Antony and Sancho for their favoured position on the right.

He told Football Insider: “I really like him, he’s such a talented winger. And Man United need that.

“I must admit, I’d totally forgotten about him during his injury last season.

“But United need that competition for places. I think he can take the fight for that right-wing slot.

“He’ll pile the pressure on Antony and on Sancho to take that spot because Rashford will have that left side locked down.

“I can see him breaking into the side, keeping Antony and Sancho out, and scoring a lot of goals for Man United.”

While Garnacho, Sancho and Antony could battle it out for a place on the right wing, Marcus Rashford looks a permanent fixture on the left – assuming that Ten Hag lands the new No.9 he so desperately wants.

The England attacker penned a new five-year contract on Tuesday after notching 30 goals in the best season of his career last time around.

United are back in pre-season action on July 25 when they take on Wrexham during the US tour.
