Man Utd ‘one step away’ from €50m defender signing after laying groundwork since January transfer window

Axel Disasi of Monaco celebrates his goal during the Ligue 1 match between Lille OSC (LOSC) and AS Monaco at Pierre Mauroy Stadium on October 23, 2022 in Villeneuve-d'Ascq near Lille

AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi is ‘one step away’ from joining Manchester United, according to reports coming out of France on Wednesday evening.

L’Equipe claims that despite the fact that Erik ten Hag’s men are still to reach an agreement over the signing, United is ‘clearly’ the destination for Disasi this summer.

The Red Devils are said to have been in contact about the defender’s transfer since the January transfer window and have always been ‘one step ahead of the competition’ because of that.

And although there is no deal in place, for now, Monaco are willing to sell and expect to make between €40million and €50m from the transfer.

L’Equipe adds that Disasi is ‘very tempted’ to move to England and that the place he is going to is ‘almost known’.

United have been linked to a handful of centre-backs this summer, with Napoli star Kim Min-jae a standout target, but a move for Disasi would certainly be a cheaper option.

The Frenchman, who is under contract until 2025, is valued by Transfermarkt at €25m and although Monaco will want significantly more than that they are unlikely to get it.

United also chasing Monaco right-back

Disasi is not the only Monaco player on United’s radar, however, with young right-back Vanderson also a target.

The 21-year-old is highly thought of in France and is also being strongly linked with Barcelona.

However, the Catalan giants cannot afford to sign him this summer and have asked that he delays any potential transfer until 2024 to then allow them to make their move.

It’s not all about incomings at Old Trafford this summer though, with as many as nine players expected to be sold by Erik ten Hag in order to raise funds to bolster his squad.
