Manchester United star Alex Telles, who is currently on loan at Sevilla, has revealed he does not know where he will play next season.
Telles has never truly established himself as a starter since he joined United from Porto in 2020. In his first season, the full-back made just nine Premier League appearances.
He was utilised often in the Europa League, though. Of the Red Devils’ nine matches in the competition, Telles featured in seven.
While he started early on, towards the latter stages, he was dropped to the bench. Indeed, in the final he played just one minute, before United ultimately lost on penalties.
For much of last season, the Brazilian shared duties at left-back with Luke Shaw. Telles made 21 league appearances, and Shaw made 20.
While Telles was plagued by injuries, it seemed United were unsure of who their best option was at left-back.
The signing of Tyrell Malacia in the summer appeared to have put an end to that uncertainty. It also spelled the end of Telles’ time at United for the time being, as he was sent out to Sevilla on a season-long loan.
Since he has been with the Spanish side, he has been involved in 13 games in all competitions. He has also provided two assists, one in La Liga and one in the Champions League.
Telles enjoying Sevilla challenge
It would seem that Telles is relishing his time with Sevilla. Indeed, in a recent interview he detailed how much he is enjoying being at the club, as well as hoping his form will allow him a spot at the World Cup.
“I’m very happy at Sevilla,” he told AS.
“The club and the fans have given me a lot of confidence.
“I honestly don’t think about whether I can get injured before the World Cup. Of course, it can happen to every player. But to get there I have to do my best at Sevilla.”
Telles has played in both of Brazil’s last two games, which have been played since the start of his loan spell, so it seems he has a good chance of making the World Cup squad.
United future up in the air
While he is putting in good performances for Sevilla, Telles is unsure if he will be heading back to United next season.
“The club [Sevilla] and the fans have given me a lot of confidence. I will give my best here and I don’t know what will happen next year,” he said.
With Shaw and Malacia currently battling it out for the left-back spot at United, there may be no place for Telles back there.
It remains to be seen where he will end up, but putting in consistent performances during his loan spell will give him a good chance at either a permanent move, or a spot back at United.
Meanwhile, United reportedly want to bring another full-back to the club soon.
