Jordan Pickford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ben Chilwell celebrate England win

Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea are all reportedly ready to pounce on Jordan Pickford, as he is yet to finalise his new Everton contract despite agreeing to it last month.

Pickford is clearly one of Everton’s most impressive performers on his day. His role has been an important one for the Toffees since he joined from Sunderland ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

In the time since his signing, the goalkeeper has made 214 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.

During that period, he has kept a clean sheet on 57 occasions, highlighting how useful a stopper he is.

That he is also England’s no.1 speaks of the magnitude of his performances. Indeed, he has beaten out some top goalkeepers to keep his job for the Three Lions for so long, having been the starter in three major tournaments.

At club level, over the last couple of seasons especially, Pickford has been relied upon quite often. Indeed, Everton have been under the cosh a fair bit.

That is evidenced in how they narrowly escaped relegation last season, scraping their way to 16th. Pickford kept seven clean sheets, which proved invaluable at the end of the campaign.

With Richarlison having left for Tottenham in the summer, Everton have continued to struggle. There is now less attacking quality to counter punch, meaning they are frequently on the back foot.

Pickford’s role has continued to be crucial this season, and will no doubt continue to do so. Indeed, the Toffees are just one spot above the drop zone, and will not want to be sucked into the bottom three.

Everton delaying Pickford contract

As such, a new deal for Pickford would have been music to Everton’s ears. Keeping him around will help their chances of staying and the Premier League and, they will hope, climbing up it.

The Daily Mail reports that Pickford agreed to that deal last month. However, his future is ‘in doubt’ as it has not yet been finalised.

Relationships between the goalkeeper and the club do not seem to be the problem. Indeed, manager Frank Lampard stated in December that the England man is “happy” at Everton.

He also spoke about the ambitions of both parties “matching”.

That there is no problem on Pickford’s end is supported by the Daily Mail. They suggest the ‘delay is at boardroom level, and not with the player’.

Everton will hope to have the situation resolved soon, as they will not want their star to become unhappy.

Prem trio lining up to snatch goalkeeper

However, if they do not act fast, they could find themselves in a sticky situation. Indeed, the report states there are three sides keeping tabs on Pickford: Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea.

The trio have reportedly been ‘alerted’ by the delay in the goalkeeper’s new contract, and believe there ‘could be a deal to be done’.

A move to any of those sides would be a step up in his career. The three of them are in the top half of the table, while Everton are in a relegation scrap.

As such, if Pickford feels unwanted by his club, a move to any of those sides could well come to fruition. It would get him out of a tough situation in more ways than one, if there is a genuine reason for his contract not having been completed yet.
