Man Utd ‘register interest’ in huge signing from Bayern as ‘promise is made’ over opening bid

Manchester United are reportedly positioning themselves at the front of the queue to sign Robert Lewandowski, having seemingly made a promise to the Bayern Munich star over his future.
The Poland international finds himself nearing the end of his Bayern deal, with his arrangement expiring in June 2023. Talks over an extension are so far yet to yield a positive result. As such, there is a growing feeling that a parting of ways could be on the cards.
Despite his age – Lewandowski turns 34 in August – he is likely to have no shortage of admirers. He scored a hat-trick inside 23 minutes as Bayern Munich crushed RB Salzburg 7-1 in the Champions League.
That result sees Julian Nagelsmann’s side advance 8-2 on aggregate as we await the quarter-finals draw.
How many more times Lewnandowski plays for Bayern, however, remains to be seen.
Indeed, he’s been strongly linked with Arsenal in recent weeks.
However, United too are also seemingly keen – and the word in Germany is that they are ready to make their move.
As per Bild, United are very much in pole position to sign him. The German paper claims Ralf Rangnick’s side have ‘registered their interest’ in the player. In addition, they claim officials at United have let it be known they ‘would like to make the first offer’.
That, of course, all depends, on whether a parting of ways is likely this summer.
‘Time up’ at Bayern for veteran striker
However, there is a growing feeling in the German media that this will be the final year for Lewandowski at the Allianz.
And, as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims, Lewandowski’s future “remains open” as he reaches a critical point in talks.
Furthermore, Bayern may reportedly look to move the striker on if they are unable to agree terms. Now 33, there is an acceptance that Lewandowski is in the autumn of his career.
The striker is reportedly ‘surprised’ Bayern are stalling in their efforts to keep him. With his deal now having just 15 months to run, the next few weeks will be crucial in deciding his future.
Lewandowski has a staggering 42 goals for Bayern this season already. That tally includes a ridiculous 12 in just eight Champions League appearances.
Lewandowski in, Ronaldo out claims
The capture of Lewandowski may yet pave the way for Cristiano Ronaldo to depart Old Trafford.

Robert Lewandowski could leave Bayern next summer
Robert Lewandowski's deal with Bayern Munich expires in 2023 and the striker might be looking for his next move.
The veteran star seemingly has plunged his United future into serious doubt following his absence from Sunday’s derby defeat.
The 37-year-old began his first season back at Old Trafford in style with a debut brace against Newcastle. He also hit crucial goals in the Champions League group stages.
However, he has become embroiled in off-field leaks about dressing room cliques. There are also reports of a power struggle with out-of-form captain Harry Maguire.
But Ronaldo’s absence for the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City has caused the latest stir. Rangnick claimed that the forward had a hip injury.
The interim boss even took Roy Keane to task over the pundit’s view on the situation.
But instead of staying in Manchester to recover, Ronaldo supposedly travelled to his native Portugal before kick-off on Sunday. And that decision reportedly stunned his team-mates.
A report from The Sun in fact claims Ronaldo only complained of his injury and jetted off after he learned he would not be featuring against City. He reportedly felt ‘furious’ at getting the axe.
And according to the latest from the newspaper, there are now serious doubts about his return to Manchester.
