Roy Keane lauds Man Utd win over ‘abysmal’ Tottenham; trio blasted for Liverpool loss

Roy Keane believed Manchester United put in a fantastic display as they recovered from their defeat to Liverpool to beat Tottenham.

A week without a game following the 5-0 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side meant the pressure had grown intensely on Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Indeed, talk emerged of Antonio Conte replacing him.

However, Solskjaer won a vote of confidence in crucial talks during the week. As such, he took charge of his side for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Spurs.

He deployed a new formation and frontmen Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo combined well. Ronaldo opened the scoring before setting up Cavani for the second.

Substitute Marcus Rashford added the third late on and Keane spoke of his admiration for United’s performance, amid a dismal display from the hosts.

“I think it was a perfect game for Manchester United there,” the pundit told Sky Sports. “Spurs had a cup game this week, Spurs aren’t scoring many goals, I think nine in 10 games. United – a good opportunity, we’ve seen the stats there Spurs with less possession, which is perfect

“Once they got the first goal, it was only it was a case of how many do we want to score, it was a perfect day for Manchester United.

“Go back to when I played, we always used to say, ‘it’s Spurs, you will beat Spurs’. This Spurs team were desperate. The biggest criticism I can give this Spurs team, they were 2-0 down and they have a corner after 75 minutes, Man Utd had everyone back, Spurs kept three players back.

Manchester United have reportedly accepted midfielder Paul Pogba won't sign a new deal; at Old Trafford, with more updates on Kalvin Phillips and Youri Tielemans.

“There were 2-0 down at home. Abysmal. But United, job done but a bigger game obviously next weekend against Manchester City.”

Keane also faced questions over his reaction to Man Utd‘s 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The former midfielder blasted Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bisska for their performances.

“They need a reaction, they need to show some character,” he said.

“They have some talented players, particularly going forward. But a lot of the players defensively, the two in midfield, obviously huge question marks over the two lads in midfield.

“But individual performances… Maguire and Shaw last week, they were a disgrace. An absolute disgrace to the club. And these are established international footballers.”

“Wan-Bissaka – I don’t even think [Crystal] Palace would take him back now. He’s not good enough for Manchester United. No feel for the ball. No decision making.”

Keane also said that he “doesn’t see” the character and personalities within Solskjaer’s group that United have typically had in their great teams.
